About this forecast

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking to purchase fresh produce processing equipment for method development and optimization in a BSL-2 laboratory setting. The procurement aims to enable FDA researchers to optimize detection methods for fresh produce processing environments, with a focus on incorporating industry-standard equipment and processes involving human pathogens. The estimated solicitation release date is April 1, 2026, with an anticipated contract award date of June 1, 2026.

The forecasted contract is valued at $168,196.00 and will be used to support research protocols centered on emerging and re-emerging pathogens, including community analyses of foodborne bacterial pathogens like Listeria, Cronobacter, Salmonella, and Campylobacter. The primary point of contact is Laquia Geathers (laquia.geathers@fda.hhs.gov) from the Food and Drug Administration, and the work will be performed in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory environment. The contract falls under the NAICS code 334516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing.

Forecast text

PA #2 6/16 approved Purchase of Fresh Produce Processing Equipment for Method Devel and Optimization Purchase of fresh produce processing equipment, and installation in a BSL-2 lab, enables FDA to optimize detection methods for fresh produce processing environments with challenging matrices, by utilizing using industry-standard equipment and processes and incorporating human pathogens. This ensures methods used by FDA and industry partners are effective for their intended purpose. The research protocols center around emerging/re-emerging pathogens, the determination of risk factors that predict their transmission and persistence in pre-and post-harvest, and areas where OAMTis uniquely qualified to lead the scientific direction. A related initiative across the foodborne bacterial pathogens (e.g. Listeria, Cronobacter, Salmonella, Campylobacter spp.) is to perform community analyses (metagenomics and quasi-metagenomics) of foods, food production environments, and food processing environments. Funded Amount $168,196.00
