About this forecast

The National Park Service is procuring bicycle-pedestrian lane additions and related infrastructure improvements in Colorado under Oil Pollution Act restoration requirements stemming from the 2016 BP Deepwater Horizon settlement, with an estimated solicitation release on 31 January 2027. The project addresses visitor safety concerns on barrier island habitat and must proceed to fulfill NPS's OPA restoration obligations; delay will defer safety improvements another year.

The estimated award value ranges from $2 million to $4.9 million for heavy and civil engineering construction work performed in Colorado. Bret Meldrum, COR at the National Park Service, is the point of contact (970–889–3205, bret_meldrum@nps.gov).

Forecast text

This project is being conducted per the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act (OPA). The source of NPS’ project funds is the 2016 settlement with British Petroleum for injuries to barrier island habitat caused by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. NPS is obligated under OPA to restore these injuries. If delayed, visitor safety will continue to be compromised another year without the bicycle-pedestrian lane additions.
