About this forecast

The Department of Agriculture is seeking contractor services for the Chiller 7 Retube project, which involves replacing the high temperature generator section tubes and absorber heat exchanger tubes in a Trane Absorber Chiller located in Building 154 on the NCAH campus. This critical maintenance work is necessary to restore the chiller's operational capability and extend its service life, as the original equipment has been in operation since 2006 and the tubes are beginning to fail. The solicitation is expected to be released on May 1, 2026, with an estimated award date of March 31, 2026, and this requirement will be competed under full and open competition.

The estimated award value for this project ranges from $250,000 to $499,000, with a basic exercised value of $451,000, and the contract will be structured as a firm fixed price definitive contract. The work will be performed in Ames, Iowa, and falls under NAICS code 238990 (All Other Specialty Trade Contractors). Interested contractors should contact Nicole McKenzie, the Contracting Officer at the United States Department of Agriculture, at nicole.mckenzie@usda.gov for additional information regarding this acquisition planning opportunity.

Forecast text

Chillers 7 is an absorption chiller serving the NCAH campus and has been in operation since the initial installation in 2006. The high temperature generator section tubes and the absorber heat exchanger tubes in the Building 154 7 Trane Absorber Chiller are beginning to fail which will prevent the chiller from operating. This is designed with in-house engineering effort and the cost is to contract out the tube replacement which is critical to the integrity and life span of the absorber chiller.
