About this forecast
The Department of Agriculture is forecasting a new requirement to procure a Baler Cotton Stripper to replace existing equipment at their research facility. This equipment will enable improved segregation of cotton by treatment, facilitate better fiber quality and economic analysis, and improve operational efficiency by eliminating the need for multiple supplementary pieces of equipment such as boll buggy module builders. The estimated solicitation release date is September 30, 2026, with an estimated award date of June 30, 2026.
The estimated award value ranges from $1,000,000 to $1,900,000 for this farm machinery and equipment purchase order, which will be awarded through full and open competition. The place of performance is Temple, Texas, and the contracting officer responsible for this opportunity is Nicole McKenzie at nicole.mckenzie@usda.gov. Funding will be sourced from farm sales account funds, contingent upon 2026 crop income.
Forecast text
We do not have the technology to separate cotton plots by treatment/plot to do fiber quality/economic analysis properly. we would like to replace our current cotton stripper with a Baler Stripper to allow us to better segregate the cotton by treatment. This action would allow us to get rid of several other pieces of equipment (boll buggy module builder) and be more efficient with a limited labor force. We plan to use farm sales account funds to do this so we will have to see how much income we get from our 2026 crop.
