About this opportunity

The United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service is soliciting proposals for the rental of three refrigerated trailers to support the FY25 Pike Spring Planting project, which requires the storage and cooling of approximately 67,000 tree seedlings. The trailers must maintain a constant temperature of 35 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve seedling viability and prevent mold, cull, and mortality during the project period. Two trailers will serve as primary storage units while one will function as a backup in case of equipment failure. The required trailers must be standard semi-trailers measuring 48-53 feet in length, equipped with self-contained refrigeration systems powered by diesel fuel. Proposals are due by June 25, 2025, with the solicitation having been posted on June 10, 2025.

This procurement is designated as a total small business set-aside with an estimated contract value of $47,000. The contract performance period spans 30 days, from July 15, 2025 to August 15, 2025, coinciding with the planting of an estimated 509 acres during the project. The place of performance is located in Teller County, Colorado, specifically at the Manitou Experimental Forest near Colorado Springs. The contractor will be responsible for all aspects of trailer delivery, pickup, maintenance, and any necessary repairs during the contract period. Tree seedlings will be delivered from a nursery in Nebraska, requiring precise temperature control throughout the storage period to ensure project success.
