Notice text
The Government is interested in further investigation into a Non-Thermal Treatment Process for ammunition related items that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies as exempt from consideration as an incinerator. This treatment process is targeted toward recovering valuable metallic components and other higher value residuals. Classification as non-incineration can lessen the cost and complexity of implementation of such a capability at a commercial/organic demilitarized facility, which will result in a cost effective approach to demilitarize select conventional and missile related ammunition items. This is due, in part, to the lower cost of environmental permitting and subsequent cost per ton for operations. Such a process should also allow for greater flexibility and more timely response to changing demilitarized requirements.
