About this opportunity
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office has issued a Special Notice announcing a Proposers Day for the Mathematics of Boosting Agentic Communication (MATHBAC) program. The event will take place on April 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time in Arlington, Virginia, with remote webcast participation available. This Special Notice was originally posted on March 31, 2026, and was amended on April 7, 2026, to extend the registration deadline. The Proposers Day is designed to inform the research community about an anticipated Exploration Program Announcement that DARPA plans to release in April 2026 on sam.gov.
The primary objectives of the Proposers Day are to introduce potential proposers to the MATHBAC program vision and goals, explain the mechanics of DARPA programs and specific milestones, and facilitate teaming arrangements among organizations with relevant expertise and capabilities. Registration closes on April 13, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with in-person attendance limited to 120 participants (maximum three per organization) and webcast capacity of 1,000 individuals; all registration is free and conducted at https://events.sa-meetings.com/MATHBACProposersDay. Non-U.S. citizens must submit either a DARPA Form 60 or Official Visit Request by April 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., and all attendees must present valid government-issued photo identification. Interested parties may also submit one-page proposer profiles by April 14, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. to MATHBAC@darpa.mil to facilitate teaming activities. The MATHBAC program will develop the science of artificial intelligence communication using mathematics, systems, and information theory to create next-generation agentic AI platforms capable of solving complex problems while understanding their own functioning, and DARPA encourages participation from non-traditional proposers including small businesses, academic institutions, and first-time government contractors.
