About this opportunity
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issued a Special Notice on March 2, 2026, announcing its intent to award a sole source purchase order to Thomas Scientific LLC for the procurement of investigation lasers. This is a brand-name acquisition for a specific model of laser equipment used for controlled substance analysis within the DEA's laboratory system. The notice is being pursued under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), which permits sole source procurement when only a specified brand-name item will satisfy the government's need. The NAICS code assigned to this acquisition is 334510. While this notice is not a formal request for competitive quotations, interested parties are invited to respond.
The DEA requires four units of the Dual 77 Pistol Grip Investigation Laser (Part Number A-CSL7W1), with each unit including pistol grip handpieces for both 445NM blue and 532NM green lasers, safety goggles, camera filters, battery chargers, instruction manuals, Pelican cases, and one-year component failure warranties. The procurement is being justified based on standardization and operational continuity across the DEA's entire laboratory network, as retraining forensics chemists on alternative equipment would create unacceptable delays in analytical operations. The response deadline is March 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM Eastern Standard Time, with interested parties required to contact Jose Marin at jose.l.marin@dea.gov and reference RFQ number D-26-SS-0022. Award will be made on an all-or-none basis to the lowest price/technically acceptable offer, and the delivery date is set for April 13, 2026. The government reserves the right to reject all offers if deemed in its best interest.
