About this opportunity
The US Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to procure an Inductive Coupled Plasma Mass-Spectrophotometer (ICP-MS) for the Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Science Center in Menlo Park, California. The agency is seeking to replace an aging PerkinElmer NexION 300Q instrument and is evaluating potential suppliers capable of providing a compact, bench-mountable system with specific technical specifications. Qualified businesses are invited to submit product descriptions and brochures demonstrating their ability to meet the detailed technical requirements by March 25, 2025, at 1500 PST via electronic mail to yangzhideng@usgs.gov. The market research will help the government determine its acquisition strategy, with responses to be submitted using NAICS code 333516 for Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing. This is a sources sought announcement, and the government is not committed to awarding a contract at this stage.
The procurement does not have a specific set-aside designation and will be open to all responsible sources within the 1,000-employee size standard for the designated NAICS code. The ICP-MS will support various scientific projects including metal speciation, bioaccumulation, toxicity, and solute transport studies across multiple USGS centers. Potential vendors should note that the instrument must be capable of handling samples with up to 35% solids, offer 14 orders of linear dynamic range, and include specific components such as a concentric nebulizer and triple cone interface. The government will not reimburse any costs incurred in preparing responses to this market research announcement. Proposals submitted through hardcopy or web portals will not be accepted, with electronic submission to the specified email address being the only acceptable method of response.
