About this file
The provided files include a technical specification document and a pre-solicitation notice for an Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) issued by the US Geological Survey (USGS). The Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Science Center (GMEG) in Menlo Park, California requires a new ICP-MS to replace an aging PerkinElmer NexION 300Q instrument that is no longer manufacturer-supported. The technical specifications mandate a compact, bench-mountable system with three quadrupoles, capable of handling samples with up to 35% solids, offering 14 orders of linear dynamic range, and including specific components like a concentric nebulizer, quartz spray chamber, and triple cone interface.
The pre-solicitation, solicitation number 140G0325Q0062, is a sources sought announcement conducting market research to identify qualified businesses capable of providing the ICP-MS. Responses must be submitted electronically to yangzhideng@usgs.gov by 03/25/2025 at 1500 PST. The procurement will use NAICS code 333516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing) with a size standard of 1,000 employees. The instrument will support various scientific projects including metal speciation, bioaccumulation, toxicity, and solute transport studies across multiple USGS centers. This market research is for planning purposes only, and the government is not committed to an award at this stage.

Technical Specifications:
The Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophyscis Science Center (GMEG) in Menlo Park (CA) requires an Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) for determination of element concentrations for low abundance elements, including many elements of the critical minerals list. This instrument will be used by multiple users from various centers (eg GMEG, ESPD, and GGG). Projects include metal speciation studies, bioaccumulation and toxicity studies, as well as solute transport studies. This new ICP-MS will replace the existing instrument (PerkinElmer NexION 300Q) that has served multiple projects for almost 11 years. The current ICP-MS is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

3) Must include installation kit comprising installation solutions, tubing, cones, torch, etc
4) Must be able to handle samples with up to 35% solids
5) In addition to standard mode, it must have two modes to removing interferences, i.e., a collision mode, and a reaction mode using a single gas channel
6) Must offer up to 14 orders of linear dynamic range
7) Must include the following components
· concentric nebulizer with flow rate as low as 0.2L/min
