Notice text
Added: Sep 29, 2017 7:48 pm To strengthen the protection and long term preservation of historic properties, traditional cultural properties, and sacred sites, the United States Army Garrison (USAG) Fort Carson plans to install large boulders around the perimeters of select resources. This protection will be supplemental to already placed Seibert Markers enhancing protection from accidental entrance into protected areas. The boulders will prevent entry in between the Seibert stakes thus ensuring that vehicles will not drive over or through the protected areas. The National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Archaeological Resource Protection Act (ARPA) encourages the protection and preservation of such resources. To prevent vehicle entries and potential adverse effects to these cultural resources Fort Carson proposes to harden the protection around some of the most sensitive resources to the Tribes and other cultural resources partners. This is the initial phase of the site hardening efforts to be accomplished for PCMS cultural sites. Future hardening will occur after an evaluation of the effectiveness of this effort.
