3-AXIS MAGNETIC FIELD CANCELATION SYSTEM
PURPOSE
The Applied Physics Division (div. 686), in conjunction with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) require a 3-axis magnetic field cancelation system for a preexisting cryogenic microwave probe station recently installed at NIST Boulder.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:
1. The system must include a 3-axis sensor whose dimensions should be less than or approximately equal to 120x35x35mm. The sensor band width must be from DC to at least 100 kHz.
2. The system must be capable of nulling fields over a wide bandwidth (DC - 10kHz) with at least -40 dB attenuation at DC and -25 dB attenuation at 1 kHz.
3. The magnetic field sensor noise must be below 1nT/sqrt(Hz) for frequencies above 1 Hz.
4. The system must effectively cancel DC fields up to 70uT (given 36" square field cancelation coils).
5. System controller: the system must come with a system controller that can provide up to 6 channels of output current to control field null coils. The controller must have at least 16 bit output resolution to control coils. The controller must include a USB or RS 232 control interface. The controller must be rack mountable in a standard 19" equipment rack.
6. Coil interface and coil power: The system must include a simple interface to connect to a set of six NIST fabricating nulling coils. The maximum output power per coil must be at least 20 W/coil.
7. Software: the system must come with Windows based software to display sensed fields, set tuning parameters, and display operation parameters.
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
The system must be capable of nulling the earth's magnetic field, which typically varies from 25 to 65 microTesla to less than 100 nTesla.
INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE
The system must reduce both the DC and AC magnetic fields to the level specified above when installed on the existing NIST cryogenic probe station for acceptance.
DELIVERABLE SCHEDULE
The Contractor shall deliver no later than sixteen (16) weeks after receipt of order.
