DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY

MEMORANDUM FOR MICC – Fort Drum, NY

SUBJECT: Brand Name Exact Match Letter for Yuma Proving Ground Fire Department, Motorola APX 8000 All Band Portable Radios Model 3.5

1. The Yuma Proving Ground Fire Department requests that Motorola APX 8000 All Band Model 3.5 Portable Radios be purchased. The 8000 All Band Portable Radios are used on the installation within the Directorate of Operations and is also interoperable with the Yuma Regional Communications System (YRCS). All public safety agencies in the vicinity of Yuma Proving Ground are using this area-wide radio communications system to improve public safety coordination.

2. The APX 8000 radios will allow for interoperability with on and off post agencies during emergency incidents. The APX 8000 radios are intrinsically safe for working in explosive atmospheres within which fire department personnel may be forced to work in during emergencies on Yuma Proving Ground.

3. Yuma Proving Ground uses its own encryption algorithm. This encryption is a proprietary encryption algorithm of Motorola. Purchasing a different brand of radio will result in the loss of interoperability communication with on post agencies and also with off post public safety agencies which mutual aid agreements are in place.

4. For the reason listed above, the Yuma Proving Ground Fire Department requests an exact match brand name purchase for the Motorola APX 8000 All Band Portable Radios Model 3.5.

5. If there are any questions, please contact Mr. Tarnell Pritchett at 928-328-2672.
