Project Value: $15M Wood’s Senior Asbestos Professional recently was on an eight-month contract with MidAmerican Energy for a 1924 coal fired power plant that has been decommissioned in Bettendorf, Iowa. She provided the field oversight, management of asbestos and lead abatement, air monitoring review of the 3rd party consultant, and project close-out for this large client.
Nine industrial boilers were full of asbestos-containing refractory, mortar, thermal systems insulation, and cross contaminated fly ash. Many applications of asbestos were utilized in the construction of this plant including vermiculite insulation, Galbestos corrugated paneling, transite conduit lines, flooring materials, caulking and lab countertops. Amosite, chrysotile and tremolite asbestos minerals were identified in the materials of this plant during the bulk sample analysis portion of the project.
2. Gila River Indian Community Harrah’s Ak-Chin Resort, Maricopa, AZ Project Value: $25,000

Wood’s Senior Industrial Hygienist performed damage mapping for the Contractor and sampling of any impacted materials for asbestos compliance for Maricopa County. Once the areas were mapped of damaged drywall and properly dried out drywall, the Contractor would either replace the damaged drywall or apply an antifungal product to the remaining material for stabilization. Wood sampled the drywall system as suspect ACM per Arizona regulations prior to any impact of that building material system. Our quick response and efficient method of work practices provided the Contractor with quick turnaround services to assist in construction scheduling with minimal lag time of repairs for this large project.
