Section C - Descriptions and Specifications
DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENT
Description of Requirement Electromechanical Material Testing Load Frame and Accessories
General: ERDC-CERL has a need to conduct tension, compression and bending material tests for several projects.
This electric load frame will require load cells and grips with a range of capacities (e.g., 5 kN, 50 kN and 300 kN), so that load can be accurately measured for the weak specimens using smaller load cells and the stronger specimens with the largest load cell. The following components define the required load frame and supporting accessories:
A. Base System Components:
1. One (1) Materials Test Machine: This machine should include the following features:
a. Electrically powered with 3-phase voltage at 220/240 or 480 volts and 60 Hz.
b. Load capacity of at least 300 kN (67,443 lbs.), and load reading accuracy down to ±0.5% at
1/500th of load cell capacity.
c. Compatible accessories are available so they can be used for tension, compression, flexural and shear testing.
d. Maximum test speed shall be no less than 560 mm/min (22 in./min)
e. Minimum test speed shall be no greater than 0.005 mm/min (0.0002 in/min)
f. Data acquisition rate of force, displacement and strain channels at up to 5 kHz.
g. Displacement measurement accuracy of 0.01 mm or 0.05% of displacement measurements.
h. Large cross head travel of at least 1400 mm (55.12 in.).
i. Large vertical test space of at least 1840 mm (72.44 in.).
j. Minimum horizontal test space between machine columns of 575 mm (22.64 in.).
k. Environmental requirements include operating temperatures from 5 to 40 C (41 to 104 F) and operating humidity range of at least 10 to 85%.
l. Workstation and 23 in. (or larger) flat screen monitor with Software capable of controlling all components of the Electromechanical Material Testing Load Frame and provide data acquisition at up 5,000 Hz for all measured data channels.
m. Software to document strain, generate reports with templates
n. Digital I/Os or other electrical connection method to trigger start of a government owned
Trillion/GOM Digital Image Coorelation system at the beginning of a test.
2. One (1) Load cell with Capacity of 300 kN (67,443 lbs.)
3. One (1) Compression Platen with 300 kN (67,443 lbs.), 200 mm (7.9 in.) diameter
4. One (1) Set of Manual Wedge Action Grips, 250 kN or 300 kN (56,202 lbs. or 67,443 lbs.) capacity.
5. One (1) Flat serrated wedge sets for 250kN or 300 kN grips proposed in Item A.4.
