DESCRIPTION OF REQUIREMENTS
Description of Requirements
Floating Weir Skimmers (FWS)
Background: The HABITATS research program objective is to develop and demonstrate a scalable and deployable capability to physically removal Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) biomass material from water and convert it to fuel. The 2019 and 2020 field experimentations indicated floating weir skimmers and booms can be useful for interception of HAB biomass in a surface water body. This contract seeks to fulfill the need for three (3) floating weir skimmers (FWS) at a flow rate capacity representing one full scale HABITATS module, as well as an array of floating booms for the HABITATS treatment system during the 2022 demonstration. The requirements are as follows:
1. The FWS equipment must meet the following specifications:
a. Three (3) FWS units shall be supplied. These units will serve as intake skimmers for the HABITATS treatment system, having a combined, total rated flow capacity of 1,500 gallons per minute (GPM) for the surface removal of algae-laden water with suspended solids concentrations ranging from 30 to 1000 mg/L.
b. Each FWS shall have a sump where the algae-laden water is collected and each FWS shall be equipped with a sump pump (in the skimmer) or an on-shore suction pump transport the algae-laden water to the HABITATS dissolved air flotation system on the land above. The sump or suction pumps can either be in the skimmer itself or onshore and shall provide the 1,500 GPM flow rate of the FWS at a minimum head of 20 feet. The pumps shall be capable of operating with power from a military power generator. Power format shall be 208V 3Ph 60 Hz for the military generator. An example of a military generator can be seen at: https://asc.army.mil/web/portfolio-item/cs-css-advanced-medium-mobile-power-source-ammps/
c. Each FWS shall have a weir width of 30-50 inches and be capable of pulling water from as low as 6 inches below the water surface.
d. Each FWS shall have a footprint of less than or equal to 60-70 inches (length) by 35-45 inches (width).
e. Each FWS shall have a camlock outlet fitting with a diameter of 6 inches.
f. Each FWS shall weigh no more than 75 lbs.
g. The FWS equipment shall be constructed of materials that ensure a lifetime of at least 10 years and require minimal to no adjustments for operation. Operation manuals shall be included with the delivery.
2. Six (6) booms, two (2) for each skimmer, each 50-foot long and with a draft of 1-foot, shall be provided and have compatible connection points for each floating weir skimmer. Tension cables shall be included.
