CHAPTER II
TECHNICAL PROVISIONS
SECTION 1
PRELIMINARY WORK AND DISMOUNTING
TP-1-01: Appropriate equipment
During the execution of the work, the contractor shall provide scaffoldings, ladders, and all necessary equipment for a good execution of the work. He shall not ask or borrow equipment from the U.S. Government (ladder, scaffolding, lift machines…)
TP-1-02: Dismounting
Dismounted items mentioned below include the removal and evacuation out of the military area of all debris resulting from the work. All debris shall be evacuated to an authorized public dump at the contractor’s expense. All dismounted items become the property of the contractor, unless otherwise specified in these specifications.
Any damage caused by the contractor’s personnel during the demolition work shall be repaired at his cost.
Following items are given as an indication. This list is not limitative. The contractor shall carry out all required investigations to complete it if necessary.
Dismounting of PVC panels, upper and lower profiles, fastening means and accessories included
TP 1-03: Dismounting and reinstallation of lightning system cables
The dismounting operations shall be carried out carefully. The reinstallation shall be performed according to the norms in force. If required, additional cable extensions shall be used.
Once reinstalled, the system must be approved by a certificated firm.
TP 1-04: Dismounting and reinstallation of signs on the gables
The dismounting operations shall be carried out carefully. The signs shall be reinstalled exactly at the same locations and with the same fastening means.
SECTION 2
REPLACEMENT OF GABLE TRANSLUCENT PANELS
Description of the work
The work described in this section consists of the replacement of the PVC skylights. They shall be replaced by polycarbonate panels on the TAXI Alpha side, and by sandwich-type insulating panels on the TAXI Bravo side.
TP-8-01: Polycarbonate panels
Work to be executed:
• Intermediate sheeting rails shall be kept
• Installation of new top and bottom rail
• Evacuation of all wastes out of the military area to an authorized public dump
Execution of new five wall polycarbonate gables
- thickness: 40mm
- color: OPALAIN
- extrusion formed “tenon/mortise” connection system
- perfectly watertight
- excellent fire resistance
- self-bearing system
- resistant to bad weather and to U.V. under extreme exposure
- light transmission (LT): ± 26%
- thermal insulation: ± 1.43 W/m2 oC
- weight : 4.0 kg/m2
- the panels have an X-shaped internal structure providing a solid and rigid plate .
• Installation of all fittings foreseen by the manufacturer:
- top profile with EPDM watertight joint
- bottom profile with EPDM watertight joint and drip piece of adapted width
- connection profile
- connection splice plate
- stopping adhesive ribbon
- depression hook
• All finishing profiles and necessary modification works for a perfect work and water tightness.
Once installed, the panels shall form plane, fully watertight, surfaces. Fixation means shall be in sufficient number to withstand high winds.
The panels are fitted to one another. This way, the partition can be built very quickly to get a smooth surface with the same insulation value. The double closing mechanical connection provides a water and wind tightness to the whole. The UV stabilized panels made of polycarbonate offer excellent protection against UV rays, rain, wind and hail. The panels are fastened to the bearing structure by means of aluminum auxiliary profiles.
Angle and junction connections provide a perfect alignment of the profiles, even with an uneven floor. The right connection between the side profiles and the threshold profiles is drowned. The groove is invisible. The side and top profiles are miter cut and aligned square by means of an angle connection. As the formation of condensation in polycarbonate plate is inevitable, the threshold profiles must be pre-drilled every 45cm to evacuate the condensation water. Once the polycarbonate panels are fixed, the connection between the polycarbonate and the edge profiles must be executed with flexible EPDM tight joints outside. This joint is anchored to the two sides. This way, the glazing is not subject to expansion or shrinking.
The luminous partition is fixed in front of the gable in a vertical way with regard to the horizontal.
The panels are wrapped by aluminum profiles. The profiles are such that the alignment can be ensured by lengthwise connecting pieces and angles. The side profile and threshold profile are always cut in straight line so that the cut edge is invisible. The panels outside are only fitted with the continuous sealing joint inserted between the panels and the profiles.
The panels are fixed with aluminum assembly profiles and accessories without piercing the plates. The profiles are easily and quickly fixed with stainless steel hangers. The panels withstand normal falling hail and the balloon test required in sports halls.
Type: Polyclip Plus 40/5X from AG PLASTIC or equal.
Concerns: skylights on the TAXI Alpha side.
Unit: m2, partition, joints, aluminum finish profiles and stainless steel fastening accessories included.
TP-8-03: Sandwich-type insulating panels
The panels are a system of insulating metal cladding, with hidden fixations, composed of large sandwich elements in polyisocyanurate foam with fireproof components and steel sheeting.
Work to be executed:
• Dismounting of existing PVC panels, without removing the roof edge
• Removal of top and bottom profiles
• The intermediate rails are kept
• Installation of new top and bottom rails
• Evacuation of all wastes out of the military area to an authorized public dump
• Execution of new sandwich-type insulating panels
- thickness: 60mm
- color: at the COR’s choice
- “tenon/mortise” connection system (see fig. 1)
- completely watertight
- excellent fire resistance
- self-bearing system
- resistant to bad weather and to U.V. under extreme exposure
- thermal insulation: U ± 0.40 W/m2oC
- installation of finish profiles; color at the COR’s choice
• Installation of all fittings foreseen by the manufacturer:
- top profile with EPDM watertight joint
- bottom profile with EPDM watertight joint and drip piece of adapted width
- connection profile
- connection splice plate
- stopping adhesive ribbon
- depression hook
• All finishing profiles and necessary modification works for a perfect work and water tightness
