Statement of Work Subscription with Integrative Materials Design Center (iMdc)
1.0. Background:
The Integrative Materials Design Center (iMdc) was established in 2007 as a consortium of government, industry, and academic partners. The objective of this research center is provide subscriptions to industry and Government personnel in order to fund research projects focused on preventing failure and improving performance structures through: evaluating the multi-scale behavior of materials, optimizing new materials and processing practices, establishing microstructure/property/performance relationships, providing practical integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) tools, and well-pedigreed databases. Specific research projects involve fatigue, fatigue crack growth, and thermo-mechanical testing and evaluations, fracture mechanics investigations, additive manufacturing (e.g. cold spray, laser engineered net shaping (LENS), electron beam melting (EBM), laser powder bed (LPB)), solid state processes (friction stir welding), and other advanced non-destructive evaluation methods (scanning electron microscopy (SEM) / electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) , x-ray diffraction, digital image correlation (DIC)), on metallic and composite materials of significant importance.
2.0. Objectives:
Provide annual subscriptions to industry and Government.
Provide subscribers with bi-annual technical reports on current iMdc projects.
Provide subscribers with access to all completed iMdc projects (since 2007).
Provide subscribers with technical assistance to the on-line technical database.
Provide subscribers with registration free participation to semi-annual iMdc meetings.
Provide subscribers with an unique forum to discuss ideas, technical challenges, solutions, etc. with subject matter experts in the fields of materials, materials science, materials processing, fatigue, and fracture mechanics.
Provide subscribers with additional educational opportunities through “Lecture Series”, “Forum Hour” discussions, equipment/software demonstrations, and summer technical programs at iMdc.
Provide primary subscribers non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to practice any invention that is made during the subscription period.
3.0. Applicable Documents: None.
4.0 Requirements:
4.1 The contractor shall provide an annual subscription to the Government to provide expert data, reports, and recommendations on specific projects related to materials, materials science, materials processing, additive manufacturing, fatigue, and/or fracture mechanics.
4.1.1 The contractor shall provide semiannual reviews (written and oral) of research projects.
4.1.1.1. Bi-annual technical reports and presentations on current iMdc projects.
4.1.1.2. All completed iMdc projects and other relevant articles.
4.1.1.3. On-line technical and materials databases (including downloadable fatigue crack growth and other data in excel compatible files) and technical assistance on the repositories.
4.1.2 The contractor shall host workshops and focus groups at WPI’s iMdc with experts from Government and industry in the fields of fatigue, fracture mechanics, materials, materials processing, and additive manufacturing (cold spray, laser engineered net shape (LENS), EBM, LPB, etc.) in order to disseminate technical information and to develop future research topics.
