Questions and Answers

Number Question

1 Specifications: Section 260533-6 call for only GRC or PVC as conduits even thought is it listed in section. There is reference made to EMT fittings in 260533-2 but no allowance for use as a raceway although it appears to be in wide use. Is EMT acceptable?

Answer Per specification and General Note 2 on drawing E-013 all underground conduit shall be schedule 40 PVC and all above ground conduit shall be rigid galvanized steel.

2 Specifications: Section 260533-8. NEC calls for supports for conduits at 10’ intervals, this section is referring to supports at 4’ intervals. Does the NEC acceptable or is there a special need for the 4’?

Answer Per specification 260533.R.2 surface raceway should be supported at intervals not exceeding 48 inches and have no less than two supports per straight raceway section.

3 Specifications: I cannot find any spec for splices and taps or disconnect switches. Where would those be found?

Answer Splices can be found in specification 260519. There is no specification for disconnect switches. All new disconnect switches located outside shall be NEMA 4X, Fiberglass or Marine rated stainless steel, Heavy duty rated, fusible. Desired manufacturers Eaton, Square D, or GE. Match existing site disconnects where applicable.

4 Specifications: Infrared testing is called for. Is testing allowed by contractor with all reports and documentation from same?

Answer Contractor shall perform all infrared testing and complete all documentation. Coordinate exact documentation required by owner. Contractor shall coordinate with owner for follow up infrared testing required per specification 260519.

5 Specifications: Was there a spec on the ground well with respect to size?

Answer See specification 260526-3.6-D and specification 260533-2.5-B-9. Ground wells shall be a minimum of 12 inches wide and minimum 12 inches deep per specification 260526-3.6-D. Allow for enough room for testing of ground rod resistance to ground.

General: There will be at time when the existing power must be shut down for new work. It was noted at the walk that this could not be shut down. Please clarify how the connection to or shutdown to allow for new work is to be accomplished? There was mention of the facility having a generator.

Answer All power shutdowns shall be coordinated with the owner. Contractor shall submit power shutdown request no later than 7 days prior to the scheduled shutdown. Follow owner's lockout/tag-out procedures. Contractor shall coordinate with owner if weekend or night work is acceptable for shutdown.

2 General: Is there a typical splice-tap or run-tap method that is preferred or required?

Answer All splices and taps shall be performed using mechanical connections. See specification 260519-3.4 for more connection requirements.

3 General: Dwg. E-013 Detail 1 shows 3-4” conduits to new H1 stand. There also appears to be a 2” conduit that is now shown underground but not with 4” conduits. Is the 2” underground with 4” to H1 stand?

Answer The 2" conduit shown is additional to the 4" conduit into the new data/telecom junction box on the new H1 power stand. It can be run in the same trench as the 3-4” conduits.

4 General: Dwg. E-504, detail 1. Ground well has no wiring associated with it, correct?

Answer The ground rod in the ground well shall have a #4/0 bare stranded copper conductor mechanically connected to the ground rod for new ground grid and/or equipment grounding at new power stands.

5 General: Is there any additional information on the surface mounted fixture and the emergency lighting? There are no part numbers shown.

Answer Contractor shall field verify existing fixture model numbers. Coordinate with base electrician for fixture type. Fluorescent high bay fixtures appear to be 4 lamp, 4', T5HO fixtures with wire guards. Preferred manufacturers: Lithonia, cooper, Hubbell. Emergency lighting fixtures shall be battery backup bug eye fixtures for emergency egress during power loss.
