Text version
The Hydrosurvey Section within NWP needs to purchase new survey equipment to maintain currency and extend capability for surveys in support of other districts with an unmanned survey vessel or vessel of opportunity in remote locations. It must be a compact, portable, light weight integrated multibeam sonar with embedded inertial navigation system with mounting bracket and fairings for installation on survey platform of choice including a small unmanned surface vessel (USV). System must be capable of generating full 3D point clouds even from behind structures that are passed. System must provide pitch stabilization (critical for small USV’s in small sea states to maintain full bottom search specification) as well as roll stabilization. In addition to the lighter weight requirement the system must meet the low power consumption requirement of 85 Watts Max.
System must meet the following mounting and deployment requirements to be readily installed on Unmanned Survey Vessels or on small 1-2-man inflatable boats in all weather conditions:
1. Must be easily deployed by a single person. Total system weight must be less than
40lbs(18kgs)
2. Entire sensor kit must fit into a single airline checked luggage size case or, entire sensor kit must fit into two carry-on luggage pieces.
3. May be attached to vessel of opportunity using 1” aluminum pipe and Speed-Rail fittings or readily mounts to Portus Pole carbon fiber travel pole system and must be easily fitted to an Unmanned Survey Vessels. May be used on small 1-2-man inflatable boats and operated in all weather conditions.
4. Single wet-cable from wet-end to topside unit (sonar, IMU and integrated sound speed probe). Single cable allows for rapid mobilization, reduced trip hazard and easy spares inventory.
5. Mobilization aboard any vessel of opportunity shall take about 90minutes and produce IHO Special Order over a 150° swath in shallow water depths (typically 20m).
6. Topside electronic interface (Top End) must be compact, sealed, and splash proof.
Sonar system must have the following characteristics: Single, fixed sonar head
1. The transducer must have a curved array which provides the advantage of a smaller beam angles over wide swath and smallest depth error due to surface sound speed mismeasurements in the outer beams (75 degrees or more).
2. Ability to map from waterline to waterline on both sides with a single sonar head in narrow channels/waterways and without mechanical head rotation.
3. Integrated IMU – no additional cable.
4. Integrated surface sound speed probe (removable sensor tip) – no additional cable.
5. Frequency Agility: 200 - 700kHz.
6. Transmit Pulse: FM (0 to 80kHz bandwidth) – for highest acoustic SNR at all ranges.
7. Beamwidth: <1° Across x <1° Along at 400 kHz (0.5° Across x 0.5° Along at 700 kHz)
8. Swath Angle: 5° - 210° User selectable, on-the-fly
9. Swath Pointing: Anywhere within 210° view
10. Stabilization: Beam steering for either or both roll and pitch
11. Transmit Ping Sweeping: Full +/- 10° ping sweeping for mapping behind structures
(counting pilings, etc.) with ability to specify beam angle from 1° to 20° for bathy (hazard route mapping) ahead of vessel. Ability to measure curvature of typical piling.
12. Beam Forming Options: EquiAngle & EquiDistance 256 & 512 beams
13. Bottom Detection Method: Automatically uses amplitude, phase or weighted blend for each beam each ping.
14. Bottom Detection Beam Quality Flags: Sonar derived bottom detection quality flags for efficient data cleaning.
15. Depth Range: 0.2 – 150m
16. Ping Rate: up to 60 Hz
17. Must collect: SideScan, Beamformed Intensity, and Watercolumn data.
18. Snippets/Sidescan: Combines snippets data in a sidescan record for highest resolution and correctly located sidescan.
19. Automatic operation: Automated sonar tuning including power, gain, transmit pulse, bandwidth and ping rate (based on sonar specified range).
20. Sample per Sweep: USACE New Work-Hard Bottom & IHO Special Order Compliant.
21. Bottom Coverage: USACE New Work Hard Bottom & IHO Special Order Compliant.
22. Survey Accuracy/Repeatability: USACE New Work Hard Bottom & IHO Special Order
Compliant.
23. Sound Speed: Automatically operating sound speed sensor built into sonar, no additional cables and no installation and no configuration required. User notifications of suspect or bad sound speed during real-time operations. Must be AML SV Xchange (to match existing hardware used by District)
24. Power Supply: 110-220VAC & 12-28VDC.
a. Complete 8 hour survey can be completed with a single battery (max 75AH).
b. Power consumption less than 85watts Max (complete system).
25. Deck Cable Length: 5-10m.
26. Connectivity: Single LAN to customer Laptop or PC
27. Single standard PC operation: Standard current laptop/PC with Windows 10, 8GB RAM, i7 can operate both command/control/logging of sonar/INS kit as well as Hypack 2018. No separate processor needed.
Positioning & attitude system: Tightly Coupled GNSS / INS (Integrated Applanix Oceanmaster or equivalent)
1. IMU fixed directly inside sonar wet-end to measure all motion as experienced at sonar.
Reduced lever arm uncertainties for quality data with minimal setup.
2. Single wet-cable from sensor wet-end to topside unit (combined with sonar and sound speed).
3. Shall automatically switch to full inertial positioning for brief periods of limited (<4) GNSS satellites such as under trees, bridges or in canyons.
4. Decoupling option to run systems independently.
5. Position Accuracy: 0.02m (with PPK or RTK).
6. Heading accuracy: 0.02° with 2m baseline (improved with PPK).
7. Pitch Roll accuracy: 0.01°.
8. Heave Accuracy: 5cm + 5% of motion (or 0.02m + 2.5% of motion with PPK or RTK).
9. Data for PPP or PPK may be processed utilizing owned Applanix POSPac MMS
