Purchase Description

The USACE, Portland District’s Hydrosurvey Section needs to purchase multibeam sonar survey equipment to maintain currency and extend capability for surveys, in support of other districts by deploying the equipment on an unmanned survey vessel. It must be compact, portable, light weight, integrated multibeam sonar with embedded inertial navigation system. It must have a mounting bracket and fairings for installation on survey platform of choice including a small unmanned surface vessel (USV). System must be capable of generating full 3D point clouds even from behind structures that are passed. System must provide pitch stabilization (critical for small USV’s in small sea states to maintain full bottom search specification) as well as roll stabilization.

System must meet the following mounting and deployment requirements to be readily installed on Unmanned Survey Vessels such as Martac Mantas vehicles or on small 1-2-man inflatable boats in all weather conditions:

1. Must be easily deployed by a single person. Total system weight must be less than

40lbs(18kgs)

2. Entire sensor kit must fit into a single airline checked luggage size case or, entire sensor kit must fit into two carry-on luggage pieces

3. May be attached to vessel of opportunity using 1.5” aluminum pipe and Speed-Rail fittings or readily mounts to Portus Pole carbon fiber travel pole system, must be easily fitted to an Unmanned Survey Vessels such as a Martac Mantas vehicles. May be used on small 1-2-man inflatable boats in all weather conditions.

4. Single wet-cable from sonar to topside unit (sonar, IMU and integrated sound speed probe).

Single cable allows for rapid mobilization.

5. Mobilization aboard any vessel of opportunity shall take about 90minutes and produce IHO Special Order over a 140° swath in 20m water depth.

6. Topside electronic interface (Top End) must be compact, sealed, and splash proof.

Sonar system must have the following characteristics: Single, fixed sonar head

1. The transducer must have a curved array which provides the advantage of a smaller beam angle and depth error due to svp error in the outer beams 75 degrees or more.

2. Ability to map from waterline to waterline on both sides with a single sonar head and without mechanical head rotation.

3. Integrated IMU – no additional cable.

4. Integrated surface sound speed probe (removable sensor tip) – no additional cable.

5. Frequency: 200 - 700kHz.

6. Transmit Pulse: FM (0 to 80kHz bandwidth) – for highest acoustic SNR at all ranges.

7. Beamwidth: <1° Across x <1° Along at 400 kHz (0.5° Across x 0.5° Along at 700 kHz)

8. Swath Angle: 7° - 210° User selectable, on-the-fly

9. Swath Pointing: Anywhere within 210° view

10. Stabilization: Beam steering corrections both Roll and Pitch Stabilized

11. Transmit Ping Sweeping: Full +/- 10° Ping Sweeping for mapping behind structures

(pilings, etc.)

12. Beam Forming Options: EquiAngle & EquiDistance 256 & 512 beams (1024 beams optional)

13. Bottom Detection Method: Automatically uses amplitude, phase or weighted blend for each beam each ping.

14. Bottom Detection Quality Flags: Sonar derived bottom detection quality flags for efficient data cleaning.

15. Depth Range: 0.2 – 275m

16. Max Range: 400m

17. Ping Rate: 60 Hz

18. Must collect: SideScan, Beamformed Intensity, and Watercolumn data.

19. Snippets/Sidescan: Combines snippets data in a sidescan record for highest resolution and correctly located sidescan.

20. Automatic operation: Automated sonar tuning including power, gain, transmit pulse, bandwidth and ping rate.

21. Sample per Sweep: USACE New Work-Hard Bottom & IHO Special Order Compliant.

22. Bottom Coverage: USACE New Work Hard Bottom & IHO Special Order Compliant.

23. Survey Accuracy/Repeatability: USACE New Work Hard Bottom & IHO Special Order

Compliant.

24. Sound Velocity: Automatically operating sound speed sensor built into sonar, no additional cables and no installation required.

25. Operating Temperature: -4°C to +40°C.

26. Storage Temperature: -20°C to +60°C.

27. Power Supply: 110-220VAC & 12-28VDC.

a. Complete survey can be completed with a single battery.

b. Power consumption less than 65watts (complete system).

28. Uplink / Downlink: Ethernet.

29. Deck Cable Length: 8m or more.

30. Connectivity: Single LAN to customer Laptop or PC – No separate processor needed and

Single db9 serial cable for RTK/Differential corrections input.

Positioning system: Tightly Coupled GNSS / INS

1. IMU fixed directly inside sonar to measure all motion as experienced at sonar. Reduced lever arm uncertainties for quality data with minimal setup.

2. Single wet-cable from sonar to topside unit (combined with sonar and sound speed).

3. Shall automatically switch to inertial positioning for brief periods of limited (<4) GNSS satellites such as under trees, bridges or in canyons.

4. Decoupling option to run systems independently.

5. Position Accuracy: 0.02m (with PPK or RTK).

6. Heading accuracy: 0.01° with 2m baseline (improved with PPK).

7. Pitch Roll accuracy: 0.01°.

8. Heave Accuracy: 5cm or 50% (or 0.02m with PPK or RTK).
