Blue River Intake Tower Entry Procedure (For maintenance on the RO hydraulic system an AHA is required) 8/29/2017 Blue River Intake Tower has been tested for air quality under rigorous operation and found to have no residual H2S detected and only low levels of CO present. Continued monthly oil samples will be taken and continuous air monitoring while within the tower will be used to ensure safe entry. Access to the Gate Room will be admitted under the procedure below:

· Entry into Blue River below the Water Treatment Room (elevation 1340.0) will require at least two personnel due to the remoteness of the facility, and the strenuous stair climb to access the Gate Room (elevation 1148.67).

· Prior to entering the Blue River intake tower, coordinate with the Senior Power Plant Operator and discuss work that will be performed (Note: An AHA is required for working on the RO hydraulic system; opening piping, sump covers, valves, sampling oil, etc.…)

· Once at the Blue River Intake tower, ensure the space has been ventilated for at least 1 hour before entry (note that the ventilation fan is currently to be left on while temperatures are moderate per Caution Order X-08-2017).

· There are two escape packs in the Gate Room. If more than two individuals are entering the Gate Room ensure that there are enough escape packs to supply each entrant.

· Descend the stairs using a calibrated and bump-tested 4 gas monitor, checking the atmosphere while descending and continuously while in the space.

· Once in the Gate Room perform the intended work. If at any time the 4 gas monitor alarms (H2S 1ppm, CO 25ppm, LEL or Low O2) Don Escape Pack and exit the Intake Tower.

· When entry is through, call LOP Operator to inform them that all entrants are clear of the Blue River Intake Tower.
