Repairs to structurally compromised decking will be paid for by change order.

3.2 INSTALLATION OF WOOD CURBS AND PERIMETER FASTENING

Lumber installation must conform to AF&PA T10 unless otherwise indicated or specified. Select lumber sizes to minimize waste. Fit framing lumber and other rough carpentry, set accurately to the required lines and levels, and secure in place in a rigid manner. Do not splice framing members between bearing points. Provide as necessary for the proper completion of the work all framing members not indicated or specified. Spiking and nailing not indicated or specified otherwise must be in accordance with the Nailing Schedule contained in ICC IBC; perform bolting in an approved manner.

Spikes, nails, and bolts must be drawn up tight. Timber connections and fastenings must conform to AF&PA T101. Do not use shimming on wood or metal bearings.

3.3 INSTALLATION OF BASE LAYER OF GYPSUM SHEATHING

3.3.1 Protection Measures

Ensure all protection for keeping metal shavings off of generators and other equipment and features inside the Powerhouse are securely in place.

3.3.2 Fastener Pull Out Test

Before beginning the general installation, conduct a fastener pullout test on two representative pieces of gypsum sheathing board. Locate one of the test boards on a section of existing steel decking in relatively good condition. The other board must be located on a section of existing steel decking in a lesser condition such as where surface corrosion has been removed and a primer coat has been painted back over the removal area.

Test at least three fasteners per board. All fasteners must have a pullout value of at least 300 pounds. Where this criteria is not met, the COR must be notified and remedial actions to ensure passage of the test, such as increasing the size or number of fasteners, must be undertaken. Do not start the general installation until all fastener testing has been approved by the COR. The results of fastener pull out tests must be submitted as required above.

3.3.3 Installation

The number, location and spacing of fasteners per board must be as required by the manufacturer to meet wind uplift requirements for the specified peak wind gust. Use additional fasteners at roof perimeters and roof corners as required by the manufacturer. Edges of the boards running parallel with

SECTION 07 22 00.00 28 Page 11 the flutes of the decking must be supported on the top flanges of the decking. Each parallel running edge must have at least 1 inch of bearing on the top flute. Cut boards as necessary on parallel edges to ensure this minimum bearing condition is maintained. Do not cantilever board edges over the top decking flanges on parallel edges.

3.4 INSTALLATION OF VAPOR BARRIER

Prime the base layer of gypsum roof sheathing as recommended by the vapor barrier manufacturer before vapor barrier application. Install the self-adhering vapor barrier over the primed base layer after allowing the proper cure time for the primer. Ensure there are no wrinkles or unevenness. Successive sheets must overlap the previous sheet by a minimum 3 inches and sheets must be taken up vertical roof features such as the parapet walls and HVAC curbs as indicated on the drawings and as required for folding over and covering the cut (or open) edges of the roof insulation. Patch all cut corners, tears and other openings in the vapor retarder with additional self-adhering vapor barrier material to ensure a continuous and uncompromised moisture barrier.

3.5 INSTALLATION OF ROOF INSULATION

3.5.1 Required Conditions for Adhesion of Insulation and Gypsum Sheathing

Insulation and the gypsum sheathing must not be attached with the polyurethane adhesive when gluing surface temperatures or the ambient temperature of the air is below 33 degrees F or above 110 degrees F.

Additionally, the polyurethane adhesive must not be used during inclement weather, on wet surfaces or decks with standing water, or on surfaces with frost, ice or snow. All surfaces to receive the polyurethane adhesive must be free of loose gravel, dirt, asphalt, grease and other contaminants that may affect the proper cure and set of the adhesive. The adhesive manufacturer's written recommendations for gluing surface conditions must be strictly followed.

3.5.2 General Insulation

Follow installation of the vapor barrier sheets with installation of the general (filler) layers of polyisocyanurate insulation. Attach the first layer of general insulation to the vapor barrier with the polyurethane adhesive. Attach the next layer of general insulation to the first insulation layer with polyurethane adhesive. Apply the adhesive as required by the roofing system manufacturer to meet the specified wind uplift criteria and strictly follow the manufacturer's written directions for application. Install each layer of insulation so that all joints of each course are staggered with those of adjoining courses. Keep insulation 1/4 inch clear of vertical wall surfaces and mechanical equipment curbs.

Do not score, slash or otherwise cut either face of individual insulation boards in order to force conformation to geometric irregularities in the roof deck, parapets or other roof features.

3.5.3 Tapered Roof Insulation

Tapered insulation must be laid in configurations as required to meet the slopes indicated on the contract drawings. Each layer of tapered insulation required to form the drainage scheme must be secured with the specified polyurethane adhesive. The amount of adhesive used per each piece of tapered insulation and the placement pattern of adhesive on each piece of tapered insulation must be as required to meet the specified wind

SECTION 07 22 00.00 28 Page 12 uplift criteria. Removal of the tapered insulation board facing sheets by cutting, abrading or scoring in order to force conformation to the drainage scheme will not be allowed.

3.6 INSTALLATION OF THE TOP LAYER OF GYPSUM SHEATHING

Adhere the top layer of sheathing to the polyiso insulation with the specified polyurethane adhesive. The amount of adhesive used for each sheathing board and the placement pattern of adhesive on each board must be as required to meet the specified wind uplift criteria. Cut and neatly fit edges of the boards as required to conform to the slopes of the insulation cricketing scheme.
