3.2 CLEARING

Clearing shall consist of the felling, trimming, and cutting of trees into sections and the satisfactory disposal of the trees and other vegetation designated for removal, including downed timber, snags, brush, trash and rubbish occurring within the areas to be cleared. Trees should be felled parallel to the stream to minimize impact to the streambed. Due to their position and condition, some trees may have to be felled across the streambed for removal, however, when this is necessary care must be taken to minimize disturbance of the creek bed. The removal of trees felled across the streambed must not create excessive turbidity (as determined by the COR and/or by samples). Downstream turbidity curtains must be in place prior to clearing activities. (If water depths are to shallow for a turbidity curtain, the COR may authorize the use of other filter methods such as small hay bale or gravel check dams, large coir logs, or mulch filled tubes. The COR must approve both the method and installation.) Clearing shall also include the removal and disposal of structures that obtrude, encroach upon, or otherwise obstruct the work. This includes, but is not limited the pavement adjacent to the stream @ STA 10+ 00. Trees, stumps, roots, brush, and other vegetation in areas to be cleared shall be cut off flush with or below the original ground surface, except such trees and vegetation as may be indicated or directed by the COR to be left standing. Special care will be taken to remove all trash and debris from the streambed along the entire length of construction. This must be done manually and with the least amount of sediment disturbance as possible. Trees designated by the COR to be left standing within the cleared areas shall be trimmed of dead branches 1-1/2 inches or more in diameter and shall be trimmed of all branches to the heights indicated or directed. Limbs and branches to be trimmed shall be neatly cut close to the bole of the tree or main branches. Cuts more than 1- 1/2 inches in diameter shall be painted with an approved tree-wound paint.

Woody vegetation may be mulched on site and used as required or needed for erosion control (Example: to fill the gap between the two silt fences). Prior to project completion all mulch will be removed from the site in accordance to section 3.5 Disposal of Materials. All clearing should be done in accordance with the notes found in the plan set.

2.1.4 Seed Mixture by Weight

Proportion seed mixtures by weight. Temporary seeding must later be replaced by the ripparian mix planting specified seed mixture for a permanent stand of vegetation. The same requirements of turf establishment for Season 2 apply for temporary seeding. All area within the “Limits of Disturbance and Clearing” line, other than the laydown areas, will be permanently seeded with the riparian mix. The laydown areas and any disturbed areas outside of the Limits of Disturbance and Clearing line will be permanently seeded with Tall Fescue. Tall Fescue must be planted in the early spring (March-May) or early fall (September-October). Specified access roads along the sewer right of way may be left in good condition at the completion of the project.

3.5 RESTORATION
