Q. Some of the links in the Models_List.xlsx file return 403 and 404 errors. Is there a revision anticipated to rectify broken links or provide non-restricted source sites? Sample links include Caution-http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net < Caution-http://usarmy.vo.llnwd.net/ > Caution-http://www.pica.army.mil/ < Caution-http://www.pica.army.mil/ > and Caution-http://www.armyrecognition.com < Caution-http://www.armyrecognition.com/ >
A. for some links this may be an excel issue that won't accept certain characters in a link, You can select the actual link URL in the field next to it, copy and paste the link into your browser. If there are other broken links please send them and we will attempt to provide other accessible sites.
Q. In the Models_List.xlsx file, what is expected/anticipated use of the vendor question field? Are those intended to be used post award or during proposal?
A. during proposal. So you can ignore the column, email will suffice.
Q. How many levels of detail (LOD) are required for each model? What are the rough poly counts for each LOD?
A. LODs are not required except for the simple versus high resolution cab interiors. Models should meet the requirements as defined by the product specification
Q. Will allowances for software licenses and/or hardware be part of the proposal or assumed to be vendor provided?
A. No software licenses or hardware will be provided. These should be considered in your proposal.
Q. Can vendors include Project Management work estimates on a new column of the worksheet for this effort for managing the development teams?
A. yes, please show a total price per model and a grand total for all models.
Q. There are no mention of LOD models in these specs. Are they needed?
A. LOD models are not required except for the simple versus the high resolution cab/cockpit interiors. Exteriors should be modeled according to the Product Specification.
Q. Do the steering wheels in the 95% accurate vehicle interiors need to be physically accurate? In our own simulation we had all interior steering wheels be the same size and angle to allow characters to share animations and hand placement.
A. steering wheels should be accurate according to the tactical vehicle
Q. Do all doors and functional parts with pistons, hydraulics etc need accurate rigging and functionality?
A. things you can interact such as doors and handles should be appropriately rigged in order to be later animated. Associated pistons and hydraulics rigging are not required unless it would somehow interfere with the model when the mechanism, door or handle was animated (i.e. clipping).
Q. In the question and answers someone asked whether zip files were acceptable. There was no answer to this specific part of the question. So again, are zip files acceptable?
A. Zip files are acceptable.
Q. What is the a specification limit to the number of UV sheets or textures per asset to address the number of associated materials and performance inside a game engine? For instance one Stryker may have one material for its base model and then another for each weapon, turret, or other additional attachment?
A. best practice is to have the fewest number of texture sheets as possible per vehicle when *specifically considering performance* within a virtual environment. Often multiple texture sheets are required to maintain the high texel density found in modern engines such as UE4, but as a *very* generalized rule, less sheets per asset is more performance. Addressing the example in the question, any swappable items on a vehicle will often be textured using different texture sheets; For example a turret that can be placed on *multiple* vehicles should ideally be textured as a separate entity, however, if the turret will *only* appear on the example Stryker, it should be included with the Stryker texture atlases.
Interiors / First Person Views:
Q. Do all gauges need to be rigged to function on the models of the 95% accurate interiors?
A. prepare model interiors as if they will be ingested and used in a popular game title - Major gauges seen from the driving position like speedometer or rpm should be rigged otherwise visual representations are acceptable for gauges.
Q. Do all buttons and text inside of the models of the 95% accurate interiors need to be legible and accurate?
A. physical buttons and switches should be modeled with geometry and texture but not rigged for movement. Text or symbology on major systems and operating panels within view of a soldier while in the associated seated positions should be legible and accurate. If text is very small, under 12 point, it does not need to be legible.
Q. Can variations of the same base vehicle share interiors?
A. only if the actual vehicles share interior components. For instance the Stryker vehicle will share many components between variants. Note: 8 high quality cabs for Stryker vehicle interiors will be government furnished (except the ESV and MGS)
Q. For troop carrier vehicles, will they still need simple 3P interiors for the back door area where troops would be sitting for when the doors open? This is not addressed in the Model List doc. (See line items 1 & 31, Bradley and Stryker).
A. simple interiors for troop carrier vehicles (unless otherwise indicated in the vendor worksheet) are not required.
Q. Do all turrets and gunner positions need a 95% accurate first person view or would a 50% accurate third person model be sufficient? If a user is able to play from the point of view of the gunner, a 3rd person lower quality model may not look very accurate from this perspective.
A. all vehicles including those that include turrets and gunner positions require a high resolution cab that is 95% visually accurate for first person views. For clarification, If you play from a 1st person perspective, all interior components shall be high resolution with appropriate geometry and textures and accurate for shape, location, orientation and scale.
REFERENCE QUESTION and ANSWER
The referenced combination of equipment does not currently exist. If this is an error, can the requirement for this model be removed?
Model List, Line #104 Master Reference: AGS-125 Model Name: * Cargo LHS Load Handling System (on M984A4)
A. This won't make a difference since this was already listed to be delivered on another model.
FOLLOW UP QUESTION:
Q. Can this requirement be removed, since the combination of equipment can not exist in real life?
A: this is a typo in the model listing. The vehicle attachment should read "M1076 (PLS Trailer) (on M984A4)". This trailer attachment is currently being required as part of another model and the trailer can simply be included with the M984A4.
