SPECIFICATIONS & GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Multi Beam Echo-Sounder System

1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

The work covered by this specification consists of providing a new multibeam sonar and peripheral equipment that can mount on and integrate with the existing survey platform. The existing survey platform consists of a Sea Ark 27’ VC Commander vessel and a Universal Sonar Mount (compact model, item number 520-100-9001-01) mounting system.

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh, PA; Geospatial Section requires a multibeam sonar that allows for the collection of bathymetric data in accordance with EM-1110-2-1003. A multibeam sonar that is able to collect raw data from a variety of sensors, and perform calculations to the raw data, store the data, and correct the data based on environmental conditions and user set specifications.

We require minimum beam dimensions under 1° x 1° at 400 kHz and at least under 0.75° x 0.75° at 700 kHz, with smaller beam dimensions being preferred. Detailed surveys of landforms, structures, and objects require the ability to detect small physical features and minimum beam size dictates the highest possible resolution of data produced by a multibeam sonar.

We require the ability to collect data with 1024 soundings per ping in order to provide the greatest possible density of soundings when surveying.

We require the ability to survey with multiple frequencies at the same time, with more simultaneous frequencies being preferred, to allow the ability to classify subsurface substrate and benthic habitat without having to repeatedly survey the same area due to frequency restrictions.

We require a dry mass under 12 kg (equivalent to 26.5 lbs) in order to be usable with our current deployment system and survey vessel. Sonar equipment must be compatible with our existing mounting system.

We require the ability to receive a replacement (loaner) unit within 48 hours of request as part of the sonar’s warranty. Due to the rapid response requirement of the Geospatial Section (e.g., channel closure, search and rescue), we require receipt of loaner sonar equipment within this timeframe in order to maintain continuous operations.

We require a delivery date for all purchased equipment of no later than September 30th 2020. The five (5) day on-site Installation Assistance, Calibration, and Training shall be completed no later than 60 days after receipt of equipment, barring any COVID-19 travel restrictions.
