1. Sash-piece will measure 52” x 6¾” (+/- 1/8”).
2. Velcro & Belt-loop Cover will measure 4” x 6¾” (+/- 1/8”).
3. Buckram Pieces will measure 3” x 3” (+/- 1/16”).
Manufacturing:
1. Make Velcro & Belt-loop Piece.
a. Fold Velcro & Belt-loop Piece Cover face to face matching both 4” sides evenly and sew a ¼” lock-stitch seam to join.
b. Secure all seams with a 3/16-¼” back-tack.
c. All seams shall be lock-stitch seams.
d. Press 4” seam open and turn Velcro & Belt Loop Piece Cover face out.
e. Press Velcro & Belt-loop Piece Cover flat with seam centered on back.
f. Insert 3” x 3” buckram piece inside the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece Cover and position it in the center (left to right and top to bottom) keeping the seam centered on the back.
g. Fold approximately ½” of one front edge of the Cover over the edge of the buckram and inside the Cover while keeping buckram centered as in 4.e.
above.
h. Fold approximately ½” of the back edge (edge with seam) of the Cover inside the Cover and even with the fold of front edge while keeping buckram centered as in 4.e.
i. Top Stitch the folds closing the end of the Cover with a 1/8” seam.
j. Repeat steps 4.e, f, and g for the other side of the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece Cover.
k. Position the 2” x 27/8” Velcro Hook-tape Piece approximately 1/16” from 3 sides of the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece and sew the Velcro Hook-tape piece as positioned with a 1/8” seam around all 4 edges onto the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece.
l. Position one end of a 4” Belt-loop ½” from the Velcro Hook-tape piece and ¼” in from the edge of the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece. (See sample) Bar-tack the Belt-loop 1/8” from the end of the Belt-loop and 1/8” in from the edge of the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece. It is acceptable to substitute 3 or 4 passes (back-tacks) using a lock stitch machine in place of bar-tacking this end of the Belt Loop.
m. Fold the Belt-loop over to the opposite side of the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece and turn under. Position this end of the Belt-loop ½” from the Velcro Hook-tape Piece and 3/8” in from the edge of the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece. (See sample) Securely tack this end of the Belt-loop 3/16” from the end of the Belt-loop and 3/16” in from the edge of the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece. Three or four passes of a lock-stitch tack are necessary to support the stress exerted on the Belt-loop.
2. Fold Sash-piece length-wise face to face and sew ¼” seam along the 52” length.
3. Press 52” seam open and turn Sash-piece face out.
4. Press Sash-piece flat with seam centered on back.
5. Fold Sash-piece in half lengthwise.
6. Position Velcro & Belt-loop Piece between 11 ¾” and 12” from the fold with
Belt-loop and Velcro Piece running the length direction of the Sash. (See sample) Top stitch the Velcro & Belt-loop Piece to both halves of the Sash-piece with a 1/8” seam on all four sides
7. Place an open end of the Sash-piece through the opening of a Tassel from the top down, and position the Tassel well up the Sash-piece to allow room for insertions of the flat washer in step 8. th
8. Insert one 13/16 OD Zinc Flat Washer inside the Sash-piece.
9. Fold the width of the end of the Sash-piece in thirds to approximately ¾” wide and lock stitch tack the end closed ¼” from the end of the Sash. This seam will retain the flat washer inside the Sash-piece. The flat washer is too large to allow the Tassel to be easily pulled off the end of the Sash.
10. Repeat steps 7, 8, and 9 for the other Sash end.
11. Position the Tassels as low on the Sash-pieces as possible.
Packaging:
1. Finished Sashes shall be packed into sturdy cardboard boxes (cases) containing 25 or 50 Sashes per box with one exception being the last box packaged which shall contain any remainder. Boxes shall be strong enough to support the weight of full cases of Sashes being stacked 3 high without their weight deforming the boxes.
2. Boxes shall be clearly marked with the words “RED SASH” in 2” tall lettering and the respective Quantity of Sashes contained therein.
Contractor shall return all samples and excess Government supplied material to the Cadet Uniform Factory, 687 Hardee Place, West Point, NY 10996.
