Government Specification on FTIR-Microscope-TGA system

· The system must be able to capable of full Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectral analysis, FTIR microscope imaging system, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), TGA-FTIR interface heated and hermetically sealed gas transferring mechanism.

· The system must consist of the required components and each component needs to be interfaced and be controlled: FTIR must be able to analyze all three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas, FTIR-Microscope for imaging analysis on large surface, fully automated multisampling TGA and FTIR-TGA/with interface.

· Each component of the system must be able to operational stand-alone mode but can be operational in hyphened configuration.

· All operations must be conducted remotely for minimum hazard contacts. Wireless software operation is prohibited, so the basic operation must be performed through a minimum of 20 foot cables.

· Entire system must be provided by one vendor who can perform installation, provide operational familiarization perform preventive maintenance, and warranty for 2 years. This is to ensure compatibility of each component and its interfacing mechanisms. The major components listed requires follow-on yearly preventive maintenance to ensure that the system is fully operational and available for utilization in Test and Evaluation conducted by WDTC.

· The system must have an internal built in feature of building custom library to enable detection of CWA and nontraditional agents.

· The system must be operational with a minimum requirements and support from the vendor, except for the installation and operational familiarization.

· They system must be comparable detecting chemicals on any surface materials such as military applicable matrixes that is concrete, gravel, asphalt, grass, dirt, etc

· The system must be comparable with standard USA power output, 110v is preferred.

· FTIR component must have built-in validation standards of automatic precision validator and covers the frequency range of 8,300 to 350 cm-1 with resolution better than 0.4cm-1.

Rapid scan spectrometer: collects up to 170 scans sec-1 when used with Spotlight Imager. Plug-in accessory capability is required to allow accessory recognition by serial number and automatic accessory optimization. Automatic Precision Validator (APV) or a type of built-in validation standards for abscissa accuracy and ordinate repeatability for automatic validation. Absolute Virtual Instrument (AVI) is required for production of standard data referenced to fundamental band positions. FTIR must have various sampling accessory options for liquid, solid, and gas.

· FTIR Microscope Imaging system must have pixel resolution with at least 6.25um in standard mode and 1.56um in ATR mode include ATR tip having at least 400 microns or larger. The component must have at least adjustable pixel resolution with at least 6.25µm pixel resolution in standard mode and 1.56 µm in ATR mode Transmission, reflectance and ATR modes. The component must have a microscope attachment so that measurements can be made based on the microscope image, including selection of specific points on sample for analysis. The system must have a rapid imaging of a sample minimum 170 spectra/sec. The component must have ATR accessory to allow for imaging of thicker samples (up to at least 10 mm) and ATR tip must be 400 microns or larger in size. The component must include any slides (transmission, reflection) that might be needed for data collection. The component must include any polarizers required for optimal data collection. The component must provide variable pixel resolution, 1.56μ (ATR Imaging mode only), 6.25μ,25μ and 50μ and array frequency range: 7,800-720cm-1.

· TGA component must be operational from ambient to 1000oC and the low mass internal furnace must permit heating rates from 0.1 to 200 oC/min and the temperature must be able to monitored by the built-in jacketed chromel-alumel thermocouple in close proximity to the sample. The low mass internal furnace permits heating rates should be from 0.1° to 200°C/min and employs a unique platinum heater-sensor furnace element. Temperature must be able to monitor by the built-in jacketed chromel-alumel thermocouple in close proximity to the sample. The component must have a maximum sensitivity of 0.1 ug with a balance accuracy of better than 0.1%. The component must have an autosampler permitting full automation of TGA operation. The TGA may be operated in a static or a dynamic atmosphere including, but not limited to oxygen, air, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide or other inert gases. The software must provide multi-tasking and multi-module capabilities, allowing an operator to simultaneously collect and store data from multiple thermal analyzers, or run analyzers and calculate and print out the results from a previous experiment at the same time.

· FTIR-TGA interface component must include a heated zero-gravity-effect ZGCell gas cell for the Spectrum instrument incorporating automatic accessory identification, low volume, and efficient sample area purging and insulated with heated transfer line with replaceable SilcoSteel® liner. The component must include a control unit incorporating a mass flow controller, particle filters, flow smoothing system, independent transfer line and gas cell temperature controllers.
