CNC Grinding Machine Questions put forward by prospective offeror’s & answers:
1. Do you want us to quote the Diamond Wheels that are not specified?
Answer: I would like to have the wheels required for grinding included with the machine as well as any quick change hubs needed. If a couple sizes could also be included that would be great as well.
2. If so what wheel compound are you using?
Answer: I am not a machinist so I do not know exactly but we need a wheel compound suitable for grinding hardened steels and tungsten carbide.
3. What is the voltage?
Answer: 208v/3 phase
4. Please explain what is meant by “install”. Do we need to rig the machine into the building? Do we need an electrician? Or will the government assume these tasks?
Answer: Best case for us would be to have the manufacture install the machine in place, wire it, and do an initial startup/introduction to the machine.
5. Is the tungsten carbide sintered
Answer: We will grind both unsintered and sintered tungsten carbide as well as hardened steels.
6. What is the material removal amount
Answer: I am not sure, I am not a machinist so I do not have experience with this. I have contacted the head of our machine shop and he is also not sure. What I can say is a majority of the parts that will be made will be under 1" in diameter.
7. Please confirm diameter is 10". Our maximum diameter on unsintered material is 4" and 2" on sintered material.
Answer: Confirmed, the machine will be used to grind more materials that just tungsten carbide.
8. However within the Salient Characteristics it states CNC internal/external grinder, which describes general purpose Cylindrical Grinder. ( which is also available with 10” swing x 20” centers and if so, then are you aware of the limitations of the swing down I.D. grinding attachment, and can you share the I.D. ranges and depths to be I.D. ground & finished??)
Answer: Typically we would not go smaller than 1/4" in diameter and no deeper than 4"-5" in depth for I.D. grinding.
2. Do you want a quote recommendation for a CNC Cylindrical Grinder or an Automatic Surface Grinder, for grinding carbide?
Answer: A quote for a CNC Cylindrical Grinder is what we need.
