Technical Requirements for Quantity two (2) 360 Nanometer (nm) Lasers
The Army Research Laboratory (ARL) and the Sensors Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD) Quantum Science Branch conducts research on quantum networking. ARL requires a quantity of two (2) lasers that shall have the following characteristics:
• Wavelength: coarse tunable 350 nm to 370 nm
• Mode-hop free tuning range: > 10 Gigahertz (GHz)
• Power: > 0.5 watt across full wavelength range; target is 1.0 watt
• Mode:
o Continuous wave (CW) o Single-mode o Transverse Electromagnetic Mode 00 (TEM00) o M^2 < 1.2 (M^2 is beam quality factor)
• Polarization: vertical, linear, with polarization purity greater than (>) 100:1
• Linewidth: < 120 Kilohertz (kHz) averaged over 20 microseconds
• Secondary output: < 1 mW at subharmonic of the fundamental
• If water cooling is required for the operation of the laser, the Contractor shall supply the necessary water-to-air heat exchanger(s).
• Power: 110 Volts Alternating Current (110 V AC), 60 hertz (Hz)
• Control electronics:
Template last updated 07/28/2016 o +/- 10 Volt (V) differential analog input with less than <1 kHz bandwidth to modulate laser frequency by +/- 10 GHz.
o +/- 10 V differential analog input with > 500 kHz bandwidth to modulate laser frequency by +/-10 megahertz (MHz).
o Other electronics as required to operate laser.
• Reporting and Manuals: The Contractor shall provide documentation related to the operation of the lasers at delivery (e.g. operation manuals and acceptance reports).
• Delivery: The Contractor shall include the cost of shipping and on-site installation in their quote of the laser systems. Delivery location is Army Research Lab, 2800 Powder Mill Road, Adelphi, MD, USA, 20783. The Contractor shall cover all travel related costs.
Application Note: ARL will beatnote lock the pair of lasers with an offset of 12.6 GHz using a subharmonic of the fundamental. The target root-mean-square (RMS) phase error is less than 0.01 radian DC to 250 kHz.
