Salient Characteristics
The Contractor shall deliver quantity one (1) Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Automatic Welding System (AWS) which possesses the following minimum technical specifications:
C.1 Power Supply and Control Systems:
• Power supply shall be a minimum of 210 Amps and have the ability to operate in alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) modes.
• Shall include a remote, repositionable touch screen where the welding process can be programmed. The touch screen shall have the capability to control the motion of the positioner (lathe turntable), sequencing on multiple levels, gas flow control to the welding torch, and timing functions.
• Shall be able to internally store welding programs and transfer them to a USB drive. Programs shall be able to be modified externally while off-line.
• Shall be password protected and have the ability to authorize specific programs or functions depending on the administrative rights granted to individual users.
• Shall have Fingertip jogs and override controls of Current, Voltage, Travel and Wire Feed functions.
• Shall have Fault indicators for Gas, Current, Travel and Safety interlocks.
• Shall have a Travel Rate Servo AC to provide rotational drive to the welding lathe. Shall also have a “return to home” feature.
• Shall have Arc Distance Control (ADC) which automatically sets the torch gap to a programmed distance prior to the weld sequence and then retracts the weld torch after the weld cycle is completed.
• Shall have the ability to program the weld torch to automatically respond to part height variations in order to maintain correct distance during the weld process to ensure perfect welds.
• Shall include a three (3) inch stroke anti-backlash ram with V-Block mount.
• Shall include a motor to adjust the motion of the torch tower with a joystick control included on the controller screen.
• Shall include all cable terminations for operating the weld lathe within the glovebox that connect and pass through a removable panel which shall be supplied by the glovebox manufacturer. Feed though connections for the torch, wire feed, ADC, travel and pendant controller shall be located on this panel.
C.2 Precision Welding Lathe:
• Shall be provided in a vertical configuration for sealing cans filled with metal powders.
• Shall have a steel tube back-bone construction which provides for a more open work area in order to facilitate easier loading and the versatility to upgrade to other attachments or equipment.
• Shall be constructed primarily of steel tubing for strength that allows for an easily accessible work area.
• Shall have an "air-positioned" torch tower and a motorized carriage along the bed with an adjustable slide and a rotary positioner that allows the torch to be programmably moved in and out and to be positioned at any angle.
• The torch tower shall also include a manually adjustable slide with a graduated protractor for accurate torch angle adjustment for different set-ups.
• Shall use a programmable air controlled tailstock that provides clamping forces up to 170 pounds (lbs) to hold the part during the weld cycle that can be locked into position anywhere along the lathe bed.
• The lathe shall have a minimum turn rate between one (1) and ten (10) revolutions per minute (RPM).
• Shall have an AC Motor to provide precise, controllable rotation speed that is controlled by the automatic welding system (AWS) controller.
• Shall have a headstock with precision bearing and stainless steel spindle with one and a half (1.5) inch thru bore. Shall include a standard two and a quarter (2.25) inch nose for chuck mounting. Shall also have a 400 Amp minimum spring-loaded copper grounding terminal.
• Shall have an adjustable speed, motorized saddle that carries the air actuated torch tower to allow the torch tower to advance and retract. This shall also have an over center adjustment capability.
• Tailstock shall also have a three (3) jaw chuck identical to the one on the headstock.
• Shall have pneumatically driven live center shaft on the headstock with adjustable pressure and speed. Stroke length shall be a minimum of three (3) inches.
• Shall include two (2) three jaw chucks.
• Shall include all pneumatic hoses, cabling, power cords, interconnect cables and ground cables required for operation.
C.3 Wire Feed System
• Shall include a wire feed drive servo as part of the AWS.
• Shall have a four (4) roll wire feed drive mechanism, a wire feed manipulator and all connections that are required for automatic operation that is located inside the glovebox.
C.4 TIG Welding Torch
• The torch shall be gas-cooled, not water cooled, for operation in an inert, oxygen-free, moisture-free environment.
• Shall be able to be loaded from the front or the rear.
• Shall have a gas lens, gas cup, electrodes and appropriate connections to the AWS system.
• Shall have a minimum 12 foot long cable.
C.5 Training
The Contractor shall provide on-site training for the AWS requirements for four (4) days, to include two (2) Government personnel. The Contractor shall provide the price of training services.
