SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION SF 1449 - CONTINUATION SHEET

SOLICITATION/CONTRACT FORM

The required response date/time has changed from 05-Jun-2017 04:00 PM to 15-Jun-2017 04:00 PM.

The following have been added by full text:

QUESTION AND ANSWER

Q1. Section 2.0 A, B, C / 4.1.11 / 3.2

LEAD indicates power shall be provided to kill switch box within 20 feet of unit and that building power source is available up to 480V, 60 cycle, 3 phase. Our question is, if operating power requirement for VLM units awarded is less than 480VAC, will LEAD provide exactly that unit’s power supply voltage requirement, in accordance with section 3.2?

A1. Paragraph. 4.1.11 clearly states that the required power for the VLM shall be 480 Volt, 3 phase, 60 cycle. A fused disconnect with this stated power shall be provided within 20' of the unit. Paragraph. 3.2 is referring to an additional utilities that may be required.

Q2. Section 4.1.6

LEAD walk thru indicates a wide variance in potential sizes of items to be stored in VLM unit. There is no pre-determined uniformity; personnel will load/ adjust tray positions as they see fit, during initial loading.

With this in mind, we can see the justification for the front to back tray partitions being provided for up to 12 potential “lanes” of items, using 11 partitions per tray. They can be shared among all 90 trays specified, over time. The question is, should not exact width lane dividers be purchased AFTER the initial loading, at a later date, and NOT be included in this solicitation? There is a strong likelihood, many if not most, of these exact width dividers being specified will end up not being used, after partitions are adjusted for loaded contents.

A2. Tray dividers shall be provided in accordance with para. 4.1.6.

Q3. Section 4.2.3

Site walk-through displayed (2) most recently purchased units, with similar specs, with this “optional/limited feature”. This optional feature has yet to be used because 1. The activity / parts demand level does not require it, 2. Stacking (2) trays on top of one another in the internal access opening blocks access to the lower tray contents, and 3. Puts the upper tray at a chest to shoulder height+ level, making retrieval of heavier items stored problematic and increased risk of injury to shorter height staff. We request LEAD consider eliminating this problematic feature and explore 2 possible value solutions below.

a. LEAD staff can “reserve” a second tray “holding space” in the rear storage area directly behind the access opening, should the demand / activity require, at no additional cost to LEAD. This capability is universal to ALL VLM manufacturers and requires no stated specification to address it.

b. Most VLM manufacturers better address the increased demand need for working with 2 trays at a time by having the mobile extractor have an optional 2nd tray capability. This not only has the ability to have 2 trays readily available at the access opening, but it keeps one tray always on display at the correct, safer ergonomic height and greatly increases productivity speed and throughput by transporting 2 trays at a time. This is a better value option for LEAD to consider if it wants to keep section 4.2.3 intended capabilities. LEAD simply would modify the Spec. to read, “The mobile extractor shall have the capability to hold and transport up to 2 trays at the same time”.

A3. Para. 4.2.3 of the PD shall be deleted.
