STEP Virtual Industry Day Agenda
• This session is being recorded to help the Program Office record questions but the recorded session won’t be distributed to meeting participants.
• If you have a question, please type it into the meeting room chat box.
• Questions will be addressed in the order they appear in the chat box.
• After a response has been provided to your question, you’ll be asked if the answer was sufficient, you can use your microphone to respond verbally or to provide a clarification. If nothing is heard, it will be assumed that the answer was sufficient.
• Please place and keep your microphones on mute, except during the time you’re talking. For example, if you’re providing clarification to a question you’ve submitted via the Chat function in the MS Teams meeting.
• If you do need to talk via an unmuted microphone, please state your name and organization. This will help identify you to the other conference participants, and assist our note takers.
• Turn off your camera. This will help prevent connection issues due to the large audience size.
• All presented information and conversations will be unclassified.

• The Small Tactical Electric Power (STEP) program is needed to modernize the current fleet of <5kW generators in the Army inventory. Those Legacy systems utilize technology from the 1990s and are reaching the end of their useful life.
• The STEP systems will provide electricity to equipment used by Army units engaged in Multi‐Domain Operations (MDO) and operating under the full‐range of operational environments. They will be essential for communications, battery charging for Soldier systems, sensors, and other systems as Army formations execute complex missions.
• The STEP family of systems will include the 3kW, the 2kW Light Weight (LW), and the Hybrid Augmentation System (HAS).

Program Objectives
• The solution must address the Government’s need for a generator set rated at 3kW or greater, but less than 5kW, and which operates on common military fuels: fuel conforming to STANAG 3747, Jet Propulsion (JP)‐8 fuel conforming to MIL‐DTL‐83133, or diesel fuel conforming to ASTM 27 D975.
• The intent of this project is to utilize a new (or existing) design and improve it to meet or exceed the requirements delineated in the Performance Specification, Item Specification for the Generator, Small Tactical Electric Power: 3 < Kilowatts < 5 (PRF 31 6115‐0133) and provide novel enhancements.
• Solutions should include prototype improvements for increased reliability, operation on common military fuels, remote control through the Tactical Microgrid Standard (TMS), and diverse paralleling capabilities. It is desired that proposed solutions support early achievement of initial operational capabilities for support of an expanding user community.

Questions
1. Pre‐Submitted Questions
• Is there room for a lightweight rotary engine as the primary powerplant that operates on the various fuels and no additional oil for the internal seals?
• The SAM announcement for (V) Industry Day reflects this opportunity will be Total Small Business Set Aside. Is this accurate and will the formal RFP also have that requirement? If so, this may jeopardize a large company from competing its technology.
