Questions and Answers 3 September 2020
No. Question Answer
1 Please clarify what the existing joint material called out for removal is made of (i.e. epoxy, bituminous, etc.)
The existing joint material various in different locations.
Predominately, traditional bituminous sealant is in place, and Sikaflex 1c SL polyurethane Self Leveling Sealant has been used for repairs.
2 Can bids be submitted via carrier (UPS/Fedex)? Yes, they can, but they need to arrive before the due date and time.
3 Is there any electric delivery method available for the bid or are only hard copies being accepted?
Only hard copies will be accepted.
4 In regards to paving – is a material transfer Vehicle required?
A Material Transfer Vehicle (MTV) is not required. This was removed from the 32 12 15.13 Specification due to the nature of the paving required for this project being on a ramp. A MTV is only required when paving a Runway or Taxiway, but maybe used if so desired.
5 At the pre‐bid meeting, the work hours mentioned were only 8 hours a day 5 days a week – in the proposal it states that you can work 7am‐4pm – 9 hours Monday through Friday. Which hours are correct?
At the Type A‐1 kickoff meeting it was discussed and established that the work hours for the Construction of the project would be from 0700 – 1600 five days per week.
6 Do we have to clean all the existing drainage on the project, or just the 1 section of pipe that is labeled in the plans? If yes, can you provide the quantities for this project?
As stated on plan sheet CG112 on the left of the page, “Contractor to clean out Pipe (6”@150’ long).” This is the only pipe included in the project to be cleaned out. It is a 6” diameter pipe and is 150’ long as stated.
7 Can you clarify the detail for the removal and restoration of the abandoned pipe and concrete footings at station 303+50 +/‐? Not sure what this is.
See attached photo from the site in the location of the removal.
No known as‐built information could be obtained regarding the abandoned pipes and concrete.
Once removed the hole shall be backfilled with Crushed Aggregate Base Course and compacted per Specification 32 11 23.
8 Please provide the detail for removal and restoration after you remove the existing anchors.
No as‐built information on the existing tie‐downs was available.
Contractor shall assume that the existing tie‐downs match the detail shown on plan sheet CP601 for the proposed tie‐downs.
Once removed the hole shall be backfilled with Crushed Aggregate Base Course and compacted per Specification 32 11 23.
9 It states that there is prime coat in the asphalt spec and it states to view plans for locations. I do not see anywhere – Could you let me know if this is correct?
Prime coat is required to be placed on newly placed Crushed Aggregate Base Course prior to the placement of the HMA. This occurs in the area shown on plan sheet CP303 in the Proposed West Ramp Section B‐B, which is the area just to the North of the Concrete ramp. In this area the existing HMA pavement is to be removed, with a variable depth of Crushed Aggregate Base Course placed. Prime coat would then be placed over the Crushed Aggregate Base Course prior to paving the HMA base layer. Also, as shown on CP304 in the Proposed East Ramp Section F‐F, the existing PCC ramp in front of Hangar 646 is being removed, with Crushed Aggregate Base Course then being placed. Prime Coat would then also be placed over the Crushed Aggregate Base Course in this area prior to paving the HMA base layer.
10 Is the grinding along the concrete/asphalt joint required if it passes the smoothness spec?
Per specification 32 12 15.13 Section 3.10.3 the Asphalt Pavement‐Portland Cement Concrete joint requires specific construction procedures which include placing the asphalt pavement 1/8 to 1/4 inch high when fully compacted and then diamond‐grinding to a minimum width of 3’. This procedure is required in order construct the
HMA‐PCC joint while protecting the existing concrete edge.
11 For asphalt paving – is gradation 2 HMA Material required for all additional “T&L” paving prior to the 2” of Surface Course?
Gradation #2 is required for the 2” Surface Course. Any underlying HMA leveling course layers could utilize the following Gradation 3:
Gradation 3
Sieve Size, inch Percent Passing by Mass
1 ‐‐
¾ ‐‐
½ 100
3/8 90‐100

12 There are 3 types of Crack repairs required after milling and with no quantities or locations until the Engineer lays them out in the field ‐ how can we bid on this item? Can you please provide quantities for these types of work?
Based upon the site investigation conducted during the design, it was anticipated that approximately 20,000’ of Type 1 crack repair per detail 1 on plan sheet CG201 would need to be completed, 30,000’ of Type 2 crack repair per detail 2 on plan sheet CG201 would need to be completed, and 5,000’ of Type 3 crack repair per detail 3 on plan sheet CG201 would need to be completed. These were estimated quantities based upon a visual inspection of the Asphalt at the time of the site investigation. Once the asphalt surface is milled, another visual inspection should be completed with the COR to determine what Crack Repair Type is required prior to placing the HMA course.
It is recommended that the Contractor conduct a site visit to perform a visual inspection of the asphalt prior to bidding.
13 There are details for in inlet adjustment on the plans (sheet #29) – 8 each. But in the drawings, we have to adjust 11 Ea‐ drainage inlets ( that are not labeled per drawing sheet #29 which ones they are) and it looks like 3 sewer/ drainage manholes ‐ Is there a detail for the Manholes Alters?
Inlets, Manholes, and Underdrain Cleanouts to be adjusted per the updated plan sheets CG111‐112 and CG201. See Amendment 0001.
14 Is there a special detail for the Water valve alters? Water valves to be adjusted per the attached updated detail on CG201. See Amendment 0001.
