SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION SF 1449 - CONTINUATION SHEET

The following have been modified:

SCOPE OF WORK

Scope of Work General Information There are two York-Shipley brand packaged fire-tube type boiler at building 229B, and two York-Shipley brand packaged fire- tube boiler at 105B that has been in service since 1973. Over the years, these boilers have developed small tube leaks that have been repaired by rolling the leaking tubes, unfortunately, the tube ends have developed cracks, are leaking and can no longer be rolled; resulting in loss of steam production. We believe the answer to this problem is to re-tube these boilers to restore them to like new condition. The work consists of the in-place field replacement of all 2 ½” boiler tubes in the second pass according to the ASME Code, NBIC Code and the Manufacturer’s Data Report.

Since Army Regulation 420-49, 6.1c. Requires the “Operation, maintenance and repair of these facilities will be in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions for specific equipment.” There can be no deviation from the above listed codes and specifications unless indicated by revision etc…..The specific equipment to be repaired is as follows.

1. York-Shipley packaged fire-tube boiler, Model no. 82-14868 H84954, National Board no. 22010. This boiler is also known as boiler #1 and is located in Building 229B.

2. York-Shipley packaged fire-tube boiler, Model no. 82-14873 H84959, National Board no. 22016. This boiler is also known as boiler #2 and is located in Building 229B

3. York-Shipley packaged fire-tube boiler, Model no. 748165 H58656, National Board no. 14071. This boiler is also known as boiler #2 and is located in Building 105B.

4. York-Shipley packaged fire-tube boiler, Model no. 74-8155 H58656, National Board no. 14070. This boiler is known as boiler #1 and is located in building 105B

Prior to the start of the work, the McAAP Boiler Shop personnel will have all of the boiler hand holes’’, doors and furnace covers on these boilers opened to allow access to internal/external surfaces for inspection.

The Location of Building 105B is about 3 miles, 229B is about 6 miles from the Main Gate entrance to the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, McAlester ok. These Buildings are located in the restricted access area and will obligate the successful bidder to meet certain safety, fire and security requirements to accomplish work in this area. Briefly, this includes about a 4-hour training and orientation session by safety, fire and security personnel for each worker as well as adhering to McAAP plant regulations, OSHA etc….Be aware, that access to the restricted area is limited and not all of these personnel mentioned above are available for assistance outside the normal plant work week of Monday through Thursday, and the normal hours of operation of 0600- 1630. Work outside these days and hours may require special permission.

Technical Information

General

During several stages of the repairs to the boilers, McAAP Boiler Shop personnel will observe the work in progress to verify that the manufacturer’s instructions as defined in this contract are complied with.

Boiler Shell

The contractor will remove all scale from the boiler and dispose of it prior to installing the new tubes.

Tubes

When removing the old tubes, the seal- weld on the front and rear pass must be removed by grinding or appropriate seal weld tube-end cutting tool. Care must be exercised to not gouge the tube sheet during this operation. Note: The tubes will be rolled beaded and seal welded in the new installation.

1. Boiler # 1 229B has 94 boiler tubes that are in the second pass and are 2 ½” Outside diameter, ASTM A178, Grade A, (ERW, HR & normalized) 0.105 wall thickness and are 142” in length according to the Form P-2 Manufacturer’s Data Report. This for estimating purposes, should be about 1128 linear feet of boiler tube per boiler with no waste.

2. Boiler # 2 229B has 94 boiler tubes that are in the second pass and are 2 ½” Outside diameter, ASTM A178, Grade A, (ERW, HR & normalized) 0.105 wall thickness and are 142” in length according to the Form P-2 Manufacturer’s Data Report. This for estimating purposes, should be about 1128 linear feet of boiler tube per boiler with no waste.

3. Boiler # 2 105B has 94 boiler tubes that are in the second pass and are 2 ½” Outside diameter, ASTM A178, Grade A, (ERW, HR & normalized) 0.105 wall thickness and are 142” in length according to the Form P-2 Manufacturer’s Data Report. This for estimating purposes, should be about 1128 linear feet of boiler tube per boiler with no waste.

4. Boiler # 1 105 has 94 boiler tubes that are in the second pass and are 2 ½” Outside diameter, ASTM A178, Grade A, (ERW, HR & normalized) 0.105 wall thickness and are 186.5” in length according to the Form P-2 Manufacturer’s Data Report. This for estimating purposes, should be about 1128 linear feet of boiler tube per boiler with no waste.

The tube ends shall be polished with abrasive sanding wheels prior to installation to remove any mill-scale, rust or other debris a distance about 1 ½” from each tube end and wiped clean with solvent prior to insertion. Tube end projection should be about 3/8 “past the tube sheet prior to rolling /flaring/beading operation. The beading operation to be acceptable must bring the bead in contact with the tube sheet and must not allow a 0.001” feeler gauge to pass under the bead. Care must be exercised to prevent over-rolling of the boiler tube beyond the wall reduction necessary for 100% mechanical joint.

Tube Sheet

Prior to the new installation of the tubes into the tube sheet, the tube sheet shall be wire brushed and checked for ligament cracks using dye penetrant, Any cracks will be repaired using the Manufacturer’s Standard Welding Procedure or its equivalent, the procedure used shall be approved by the contractor supplied Authorized Inspector before the repair is started and shall comply with the requirements of the ASME Code, the national Board Inspection Code R-300 “General Requirements For Repair’s And Alterations” sand R-400 “Repairs To Boilers And Pressure Vessels”. Ensure all tubes holes are not scored by tube removal

And repair or ream as necessary. Tube holes should not be over 2.525” I.D. and should be abrasive polished and solvent washed prior to the installation.

Welded Repairs

These repairs to the boilers will require the organization making the repairs to possess the appropriate ASME Code Symbol or National Board “R” Stamp authorizing them to prepare and furnish copies of the National Board Form R-

1. “Report of Welded Repair”. This report or a statement from the contractor stating no welded repairs were performed. Shall be furnished to McAAP prior to the final payment.
