Description of Process- The following equipment is used in the buildup and breakdown of aircraft main and nose landing gear wheel and tires. Tire bead breaker is used to break the bead of the tire and separate the tire from the wheel. Torque system is used during the buildup process to ensure the correct torque is applied to each wheel tie bolt nut.

1. Bead Breaker- A reliable method to break (separate) narrow and wide body bias, radial, tire beads from the wheel rim to facilitate tire dismounting without requiring the operator to perform heavy lifting. The bead breaker shall include manual or automatic spade (jaw) adjustment. The height of the head assemblies shall be adjustable to accommodate wheel assembly heights from 37-46 in. using a hydraulic system. The spades must be adjustable to accommodate wheel assemblies with side walls of 14-18 in. with rims of a minimum width of 13-20 in. The equipment shall be of robust construction, dependable, and able to perform in an industrial environment.

2. Torque System and Wheel Adapters- A torque system is needed for the buildup of wheels and tires. This requirement is for a computer-controlled, twin-spindle nutrunner to allow the user to achieve high accuracy pre-torque, final torque, and torque angle. The torque range need is between 23-265 FT/LBS with the spindles accepting ¾” drive impact sockets. The torque system manufacturer must also have available wheel adapters for the nose landing gear wheel (Bauer P/N 2606735-1,-2) and main landing gear wheel (Bauer P/N 2608811-2,-3-5). The same requirement to perform in an industrial environment applies.
