EAFB-001 TITLE: Radio Frequency Identification System
TECHNOLOGY AREA(S): Automated Inventory Management ACQUISITION PROGRAM: 96 Security Forces Squadron Radio Frequency Identification
OBJECTIVE: The 96th Security Forces Squadron needs a system that assists security forces personnel Eglin Air Force Base, Florida in modernizing the inventory management system to expedite digital data entry and tracking for accountability, location, and status of weapons, ammunition, supplies, resources, and equipment. The overarching goal is to reduce work hours and increase accuracy of tracking inventory using currently available advanced technology.
96th Test Wing is pursuing a hardware and software solution that the submittal firm substantiates a present ability to:
1) Apply micro RFID tags to armory inventory items such as weapons and protective equipment to enable Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) tracking
2) Install devices such as antennas in the inventory distribution point to detect missing items
3) Integrate system with CAC/Pin-enabled to digitally issue AF members an asset with precision
4) Embed forms like AF Form 1297 (hand receipt) and AF Form 522 (shooting qualification records) to eliminate physical records and allow for member to digitally sign
5) Generate report/analysis capability to retain trends and inventory data for historical purposes
6) System must operate without requiring a connection to the AF network
The existing requires manual data entries to identify an Airmen and record the inventory tracking data by hand into a digital spreadsheet. Inventory must be counted individually by at least 2 personnel. The 96 SFS armory utilizes an AF Form 1297 (paper hand receipt) to track assets issued out of Armory. Additionally, the NCOIC uses an AF Form 1473 (Inventory Roster) and a Custodian Inventory Report(CIR) track and record the amount of assets we have in the Armory. Currently this process requires 2 personnel and unending amounts of paper to account for each asset by verifying serial numbers, locations and manually imputing data into a digital spreadsheet. During each shift (3 shifts daily), whether 8 hours or 12 hours, inventory must be counted individually by at least 2 personnel. AF Form 629's (Item Identification Card) are placed where assets are issued for daily use, TDY, and Deployments for tracking purposes. All forms are hand written and inputed manually after each shift per individual to generate a report for inspection purposes. If we lost AF network connection we would be unable to generate reports and copies of forms used for accountability and inspections. The equipment warranty, training, and technical support must be addressed as part of the solution.
