SINGLE SWING-ARM ROAD CLOSURE GATES

For Coronado National Forest

July 22, 2020 Contact: Walter Keyes—520-396-0416—walter.keyes@usda.gov

REQUIREMENT: Fabricate and deliver swing arm gates per attached Angeles National Forest gate design sheet with deletions and notes presented below on this sheet. Installation is NOT required. Gate Width shown in Detail #1 shall be 16-feet. All edges and welds shall be ground smooth. Each fabricated gate shall be functionally identical with each other such that a complete swing-arm assembly will fit onto any of the hinge posts and mate with any of the Locking Posts. No surface prep, primer or paint required— provide as-fabricated.

Ignore the following items on the attached design sheet:

• Concrete footers or pipe fill.

• Reflectorized red and white tape.

• Road Closed sign and all sign related hardware and plates shown in Detail 3.

• Drawing Notes #1, 3 and 4.

Notes:

• Coordinate with Contact (Walter Keyes: 520-396-0416, COR) during fabrication of initial gate components. Any questionable measurements or suggested incidental improvements shall be coordinated with the Contact.

• All components shall be fabricated from new steel.

• Hinge post is nominal 6-inch Schedule 80 steel pipe. All other pipe is Schedule 40.

• Fabrication of (8 each) shim welds may be executed differently upon written approval of

Contact.

• Diagonal brace of swing arm shall be approximately 13-feet long.

• Ensure ½-inch x 18-inch steel collars in Detail #2 are perpendicular to hinge post and swing arm hinge pipe so that gate arm swings correctly once lubricated in the field.

• Leave top of Hinge Post—Detail #7—open at the top for partial concrete fill in the field.

End.
