Funding Restrictions
Student Education
Note the recipient must use at least 50% of the total phase 1 and phase 2 grant funds for the direct support of students. However, the total proposed budget does allow for up to 75% of the phase 1 funds to be spent on equipment and faculty development. For example, $500,000 of a budget request of $1,000,000 would be for direct support of students. DHS defines direct support of students to include scholarships, stipends, traineeships, research, or internship experiences relevant to DHS. The remaining funds, up to 50% may be used for other costs. DHS defines the use of other costs to include early-career faculty, curriculum development, faculty exchanges within DHS COEs or other institutional support.
