About this file

This is a Statement of Requirement for a high-precision multichannel pyrometer system to support the Naval Postgraduate School's advanced modeling of laser/material interactions for direct energy research. The Navy requires one integrated system capable of accurate temperature measurements and spectral data analysis to determine temperature-dependent absorptivity and emissivity parameters essential for high-energy laser effects testing and student thesis research. The system must deliver within 18 to 24 weeks after order receipt.

The pyrometer system must provide multi-wavelength temperature measurement with 0.1°C resolution across a 300°C to 2000°C range, real-time absorption (off-gas) compensation to counteract vaporized material interference during high-energy laser testing, on-line tolerance and signal strength monitoring, spectral and total emissivity correction, and real-time on-screen display of spectral emissivity as a function of wavelength. Required optical and mechanical components include a fixed-focus lens assembly with selectable focal length from 15 inches to 20 feet, an armored 5-meter fiber assembly suitable for laboratory use, integrated laser aiming capability, and a notch filter to reject 1080 nm wavelength interference from the primary laser. The system must include integrated onboard computing capability for displaying results and logging raw data in non-volatile memory, with continuous or operator-demand measurement capability. The related pre-solicitation notice indicates the Navy intends sole-source award to FAR Associates and issued this notice for market research purposes to determine whether other responsible sources can meet the Government's minimum requirements.

STATEMENT OF REQUIREMENT

High-Precision Multichannel Pyrometer System Naval Postgraduate School

1. Background / Introduction The Naval Postgraduate School requires a high-precision multichannel pyrometer system to support advanced modeling of laser/material interactions for direct energy research. Accurate temperature measurements and spectral data are required to determine temperature-dependent absorptivity and emissivity, which are essential parameters for high-energy laser effects testing. The equipment will also support student thesis research activities.

2. Delivery Timeline Required delivery is 18 to 24 weeks after receipt of order.

3. Minimum Technical Requirements / Salient Characteristics The contractor shall provide one (1) high-precision multichannel pyrometer system with associated components meeting the following minimum requirements:

3.1 Pyrometer System

The system shall:

1. Be a multi-wavelength pyrometer capable of high-precision temperature measurement for laser/material interaction testing.

2. Provide on-line tolerance and signal strength monitoring.

3. Provide spectral and total emissivity correction.

4. Provide real-time absorption (off-gas) compensation to maintain measurement fidelity during high-energy laser testing in environments with significant vaporized material interference.

5. Provide continuous or operator-demand measurement capability.

6. Provide temperature measurement resolution of 0.1°C.

7. Operate across a temperature range of 300°C to 2000°C.

8. Provide real-time on-screen display of spectral emissivity as a function of wavelength.

9. Include an integrated PC or equivalent onboard computing capability sufficient to display results and log raw data in non-volatile memory.

3.2 Optical / Mechanical Components

The system shall include:

1. A fixed-focus lens assembly with selectable focal length capability from 15 inches to 20 feet (40 cm to 600 cm).

2. An armored fiber assembly, 5 meters in length, suitable for laboratory use and protection.

3.3 Aiming / Filtering Requirements

The system shall:

1. Allow aiming and measuring concurrently through an integrated laser or equivalent aiming capability.

2. Include a notch filter or equivalent filtering capability to eliminate or reject 1080 nm wavelength interference from the primary laser.

4. Purpose of Requirement These capabilities are required because high-energy laser testing produces off-gassing and spectral interference that can distort conventional temperature readings. The system must therefore provide real-time compensation for vaporized material effects while also measuring wavelength-dependent emissivity over extreme temperature ranges. Standard pyrometers that do not provide these capabilities are insufficient to meet the Government’s minimum need.

5. Quantity

· 1 Each – High-Precision Multichannel Pyrometer System with associated components meeting the requirements of this Statement of Requirement.
