Power Supply NSN: 6130-01-122-0690 Question & Answer (Q&A) Q1). This question is in regards to the Combined Temperature/Vibration burn-in Test Cycle called out on Page 14 of Critical Item Product Fabrication Specification, 908446A, for Burn-In requirement. This was a common environmental test requirement in the 1980's when Power Supply 6130-01-122-0690, PN 12279592 was designed but is rarely called out in more recent designs for which the Temperature Test Cycle and Vibration Test Cycle are performed separately. Most testing labs do not have the Combined Environment chambers. Can the required Burn-in Environmental Test Cycles be performed separately on these units?
A1). Since the tests are for Burn-in purposes and mainly to detect early life failure issues, it is acceptable to do the Burn-in Vibration and Temperature tests separately. It is recommended to do the Vibration test before Temperature with the included Electrical Stress test (3.3.2.2.1.c).
Q2). Power Supply Access Cover, Drawing # 12279412, calls out a Cadmium Plate Finish Type 111, Class1 per QQ-P 416 and Capacitor Mounting Bracket, Drawing # 12279451, calls out a Cadmium Plate Finish, Class 1, Type 11 per QQ-P-416. Cadmium Plate is no longer allowed. Please tell us what Finish should be used for these pieces.
A2). The US Army Abrams PM still allows vendors to apply cadmium plating.
