A. INSPECT THE PRESERVATION AND UNIT PACK IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1. INSPECT THE
PACKING IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-1186 AND THE APPLICABLE CONTAINER SPECIFICATION.
B. APPLY PRESERVATIVE TO ALL UNPAINTED/UNPLATED METALLIC SURFACES.
C. APPLY ONE PIECE OF WRAP, SIZE: 8 X 12, TO PRESERVED SHAFT. SECURE WITH A-A-883 TAPE. APPLY ONE PIECE OF WRAP, SIZE: 16 X 16, AROUND THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE ITEM. USE THE MOUNTING BOARD (ITEM A ON PAGE 4) AS A TEMPLATE TO MAKE HOLES IN THE WRAP. ONCE THE ITEM IS BOLTED IN PLACE, FOLD THE WRAP TO COMPLETELY ENCLOSE THE PRESERVED AREAS. SECURE WITH
A-A-883 TAPE.
D. BLOCKING/BRACING: SEE PAGES 3 AND 4.
E. WRAP THE MOUNTED REDUCER, GEAR WITH CUSHIONING TO PREVENT PUNCTURING THE BARRIER
MATERIAL (STEP 5) WITH THE ITEM. SECURE WITH A-A-883 TAPE.
F. ENVELOPE: SEE PAGES 2 AND 4.
G. CONTAINER IS CONSTRUCTED FROM ALL 3/4” THICK LUMBER AND MODIFIED TO INCLUDE BEVELED SKIDS. SKIDS ARE PLACED AS SHOWN ON PAGE 4 WITH SIZE AND APPLICATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH
ASTM-D6251.
H. CONTAINER CLOSURE SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE CONTAINER SPECIFICATION.
TOP OF CONTAINER SHALL BE SECURED TO SIDES AND ENDS WITH WOOD SCREWS.
I. THE UNIT CONTAINER IS THE SHIPPING CONTAINER.
J. IN ADDITION TO MIL-STD-129 MARKINGS, THE UNIT CONTAINER SHALL BE MARKED ON THE TOP AND ONE SIDE WITH 1/2” HIGH (MIN) BLACK LETTERS “REUSABLE CONTAINER AND CUSHIONING, DO NOT DESTROY”. IN ADDITION, THE TOP SHALL BE MARKED WITH 1/2” HIGH (MIN) LETTERS “REMOVE SCREWS
