About this file

This Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) document details packaging requirements for a Transmitter Subassembly, Radar with Code ID 98747. The document specifies military preservation methods following MIL-STD-2073, with serviceable and unserviceable packaging methods designated as Level A and Level B. Key packaging instructions include using debarked, heat-treated wood materials compliant with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15), and detailed component specifications for the packaging assembly. The document provides technical drawings showing the packaging configuration, dimensional details, and a parts list that includes components like corner straps, washers, bolts, banding, cushioning protectors, and base materials, with each component having specific material and size specifications from various ASTM standards.

The packaging instruction includes several important notices, such as allowing packaging material substitution if it meets MIL-STD-2073 requirements, ensuring equal or better protection without increased government cost, and mandating that overseas and FMS packaging must meet Level A packaging standards. The wood packaging material (WPM) requirements emphasize using heat-treated, debarked wood for international shipments to prevent invasive species spread, with certification required by an agency recognized by the American Lumber Standards Committee. The document is marked with Distribution Statement D, restricting distribution to Department of Defense and U.S. DoD contractors for administrative or operational use as of 28 February 2018.
