About this file

This technical specifications document outlines the requirements for a Smith-Root Apex backpack electrofishing unit needed by the Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery under solicitation 140FS225Q0035. The unit is required to sample for and prevent Whirling Disease by removing fish from the bypass channel above the fish barrier on Jones Hole Creek and sampling below the barrier to evaluate disease prevalence in native trout populations.

The required equipment includes a portable backpack electrofishing unit with adjustable harness, 6-foot two-piece electrode pole with anode, 11-inch stainless steel electrode ring, draggable rattail electrode, and two lithium batteries with charger. Key technical specifications include 400W continuous/47,000W peak output power, 50-1,200V output voltage, 0-1,000Hz frequency range, 40A peak maximum current, and multiple safety features including tilt switch, immersion sensor, and emergency stop. The unit must operate in temperatures from 0-40°C and altitudes from -400 to 3,000 meters, powered by a 24V 9Plus AH lithium battery.

140FS225Q0035 Electrofishing Unit Page 1 of 2 Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery

General Narrative:

Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery has a requirement for a Smith-Root Apex backpack electrofishing unit and related accessories to sample for and prevent Whirling Disease from entering the facility. This unit will be used to remove any fish above the fish barrier on Jones Hole Creek that may be present in the bypass channel adjacent to the hatchery. This unit will also be used to sample below the fish barrier to evaluate Whirling Disease prevalence in the native trout population. It is crucial to ensure Whirling

Disease is prevented from entering the facility. No fish should be present in the bypass channel or springs on the east or west side of the hatchery.
