C. Where existing ceiling plaster has detached from substrate (typical for plaster detached from intact lath), use screws with 1” washers or approved similar method, to spread the weight of the ceiling system across the diameter of the washer. As the gypsum board is fastened through to joist/structure, the fastener shall “pull” the gypsum board and existing plaster system tightly against the original substrate, restoring the ceiling. This method requires additional finishing to provide a smooth final product once patched and painted.

D. Surfaces of gypsum board and substrate (existing plaster) may be bonded together with an adhesive in addition to fasteners.

Tool joints as smoothly as possible to minimize sanding and dust.

B. Provide accessories and corner treatments to edges where new gypsum board meets existing wall, existing crown molding or existing cornice/ornate ceiling treatments. Refer to project SOW for addition requirements for new crown molding or similar decorative treatment which may affect method of finishing perimeter edges of the new ceiling gypsum board.

C. Do not use fiber glass mesh tape with conventional drying type joint compounds; use setting or hardening type compounds only.
