About this file

This document outlines a federal contract opportunity for a chamber extension from Kurt J Lesker (KJLC). NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center Cryogenics and Fluids Branch requires Kurt J Lesker to manufacture a cylindrical extension to their existing chamber to increase the total length to over 7 feet. The extension will mate with the current chamber to form a horizontal chamber of 100 inches. The period of performance is 16 weeks from approval of drawings. Interested parties may submit capabilities and qualifications by March 18, 2024 to be considered for a competitive procurement, otherwise NASA intends to issue a sole source contract to Kurt J Lesker as the sole provider of the chamber extension.

Kurt J Lesker To Manufacture Chamber Mate To Existing Code 552 Chamber

1. Objective/Requirements

The Cryogenics and Fluids Branch (Code 552) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) requires the procurement a mate to our current Kurt J Lesker (KJLC) horizontal chamber. KJLC will produce the other half of our current chamber so that the effective chamber length is increased to over 7ft (84inches). The increase in chamber length is necessary because Code 552 is developing cryogenic heat pipes.

Our branch currently have a methane cryogenic heat pipe on hand and in our lab awaiting this chamber extension. This is a research and development effort by Code 552 is to provide the necessary engineering knowledge and expertise into cryogenic heat pipes in order to support future space flight missions (such as LEM, Habitable World Observatory, etc). This knowledge will help ensure that our branch, GSFC, and NASA will be the leaders in cryogenic heat pipe and their applications.

2. Requirements of the system

Kurt J Lesker (KJLC) will produce the cylindrical extension to our current chamber.

This extension will mate with our current chamber and form a horizontal chamber of 100inches.

3. Place of Performance NASA-GSFC located in Building 7, Room 039A.

4. Period of Performance The temperature sensors shall be delivered to GSFC Branch 552 within 16weeks of approval of drawings by GSFC Branch 552.
