About this file
This document outlines the scope of work for repairs to the centerline anti-submarine warfare shaft cooling tree on the CGC BENJAMIN BOTTOMS. The repairs include renewing approximately 6 feet of 3-inch and 1 foot of 1.5-inch copper-nickel piping from the weld in header to the first flange and braze prior to shaft cooling supply valves using 70-30 copper-nickel alloy piping and fittings. Temporary repairs are also specified to reinforce existing rubber patches on holes in the 1.5-inch pipes. The repairs are to be completed between July 17-21, 2023 at the ship's homeport in San Pedro, California. Safety protocols for isolating and testing the piping systems are included.

· See “Final Piping Replacement Mark Up” diagram: Using 70-30 CuNi, renew ASW piping from the weld in header to the first flange before valves (for 3” piping) and to the first braze prior to shaft cooling supply COVs (1.5” piping).
· Current known existing conditions: Holes on both 1.5” pipes, along where the pipe meets the 3” main line, patched with rubber patches and metal bands. Patch is currently holding. All piping involved is currently 90-10 CuNi.
· Approximately 6 ft of 3” wide piping, approximately 6” (round up to 1 ft) of 1.5” piping.
· Parts needed, see “Part Plan 58-C” from 154-WPC_524_201:
· 033 – 3” diameter, BSI: 5126520, ELL 3” 200# 45 BW LR CNA 90/10 (change to 70/30)
· 035 – 3” diameter, BSI: 5126500, ELL 3” 200# 90 BW LR CAN 90/10 (change to 70/30)
· 066 – 1.5” diameter, BSI: 5368100, PIPE COPPER NICKEL SMLS 706-90/10 Class 200 (01.500) 1-1/2 inch 0.072 wall w/ certs (change to 70/30 CuNi)
· 069 – 3” diameter, BSI: 5371100, PIPE COPPER NICKEL SMLS 706-90/10 Class 200 size (03.000) 3 in 0.095 wall w/ certs (change to 70/30 CuNi)
· Interferences: Includes but is not limited to - deck plate supports, valves, pipe supports, ASW and firemain gauge lines etc.
· Safety Precautions: Prior to opening seawater system for repairs at a location where there are less than two barriers to the sea (e.g. isolation valve, blank-able flange, pump, etc.), submit proposal that will mitigate elevated risk of compartment flooding (e.g. increased damage-control watch standing personnel, readying of temporary dewatering equipment, diver services, and temporary cofferdam installation, etc.) appropriate to particular situation/configuration/risk-level.
· Ship’s Force will perform electrical isolation, tag-out procedures, etc. Coordinate with Ship’s Force and ensure all of this work is complete prior to performing any maintenance.
· After all authorized repairs, hydrostatically test all new and disturbed piping and components in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0740, Appendix, Hydrostatic Test. Ensure zero leakage from or permanent deformation of pressure containing parts by repairing all leaks, deformations, and discrepancies.
· Touch- ups in accordance with Std Spec 6310 and 0000 (Appendix A – Requirements for Preservation of Ship Structures).
Period of performance: July 17-21 2023
