DESCRIPTION

This project will remove and dispose of fallen trees, rockslides, and downed debris from the park campgrounds gut in several locations that remain from to Hurricane Irma and Maria. The work is to provide proper drainage to allow storm water to flow away from the campsites and trails.

The unsafe conditions of the blocked guts create a safety hazards to visitors especially when heavy rains flood the roads which channels the water into the gut.

Erosion from the excessive water being forced into the gut happens when the gut is not cleared below the campground elevation which in turn washes out the bare camp sites and trails. This sends sediment and other debris into the bay and damaging resources in and out of the water.

The rehabilitation of the gut will allow park visitors as well as employees to utilize the areas without being exposed to safety hazards. The improvements will allow several hundreds of visitors per day to use the area as well. Natural resources will be protected by eliminating silt and debris from entering the clear waters and settling which would damage protected resources that include but are not limited to the Cinnamon Bay Campgrounds.
