Statement of Work

Title: Provide New World Primate Caging System

Purpose: To find one responsible source that has the capabilities to provide a modern caging system and components for housing a variety of New World Primate species in multiple configurations. Caging needs to be particularly well suited for housing Aotus Monkeys with flexibility to house breeding pairs, family units and singly housed animals.

Vertical space in the enclosure is essential for this arboreal species, which is safe, secure, and easily sanitized. Rack and cage construction must be able to withstand the rigors of a busy lab animal facility. Caging and components shall meet or exceed the recommended minimum space requirements for Group 2 Non-human primates (NHP) as referenced in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, 8th addition and meet or exceed the specifications listed below.

Specifications:

1. Frame and body of the rack shall be US made stainless steel. All welds shall be ground smooth, polished, and watertight.

2. Cage racks shall be mobile, one over one with overall exterior dimensions not to exceed 79.0 inches high by 28 inches wide by 24 inches deep. Other configurations will be considered if they provide maximum flexibility for housing arrangements and room population density.

3. Floor space of cage interior shall meet or exceed the recommended minimum space for Group 2 NHPs housed in pairs or groups of 3 square feet.

4. The minimum interior cage height for this requirement shall be 34 inches.

5. Cage racks shall have the ability to interconnect side by side for expansion of housing space. The interlocking devices must be designed to prevent unintentional release of the locking mechanism.

6. Cage racks shall have stainless steel round bar flooring and plastic waste pans.

Flooring and waste pans shall be removable to allow vertical movement of animals. When flooring and waste pans are removed the opening on the front of cage shall have the ability to be secured.

7. Caging shall be designed to minimize noise during movement of the racks to reduce animal stress.

8. The main cage doors shall be constructed of stainless-steel rod that are hinged and removable from the cage. Main doors shall have integral vertical sliding doors constructed of stainless-steel rod.

9. Individual cages shall have interior mounted nest boxes constructed of thermoneutral material and are easy to manipulate in and out of the cage. These boxes shall be able to be operated to be closed from the outside of the cage, to allow them to be utilized as catch/transfer boxes. When boxes are removed the opening in cage and box shall have the ability to be secured.

10. Doors and openings on the cage compartments shall be designed for use of padlocks.

11. Each cage shall have 2 resting boards/perches made of polyethylene. Perches shall be constructed to hold feed bowls.

12. Each cage shall have a minimum of 2 internal feed bowls with ability for bowls to be locked in place.

13. Feeders shall be stainless steel bowl type. 2 feed bowls per cage compartment and include 100% turnaround of the bowls.

14. Spacing of bars shall prevent escape or injury of the animals.

15. Cage construction shall allow easy visual inspection of animals.

16. Cages shall be equipped with a stainless-steel watering manifold on rear of cage.

Manifold shall be compatible for use with Edstrom automatic watering systems.

17. Manifold shall be designed to thoroughly drain and enable sanitization inside of piping and easily removable.

18. Drinking valves shall be replaceable.

19. Cage fronts shall be equipped with 1 stainless steel water bottle holder per cage compartment. Holders shall allow for easy placement and removal of water bottles with easy access for animals to drink.

20. Provide polycarbonate water bottle set-ups that include stainless steel sipper tubes and bottle stoppers compatible for use by New World species. One water bottle set-up per cage compartment and include 100% turnaround of each set up.

21. The rack shall have 4 stainless steel swivel caster rigs, minimum 5-inch kryptonic type wheels, 2 with locking brakes on front side of rack. Zerk fittings on all casters.

22. Cage racks and components shall be chemical and impact resistant. Resistant to high temperatures and be completely washable at 180° F in industrial cage washers.

Deliverables:

1. Electronic set of drawings and one hardcopy set shall be provided in response to this solicitation that demonstrates in detail the caging systems adherence to the specifications listed above.

2. Mill Certification shall be provided for the origin of the stainless steel to be used in the manufacture of the caging system.

Period of Performance/Delivery Schedule:

1. Drawings due within 5 days of contract award.

2. Ship date of equipment after approved drawing submittal is 150 days.

Quality Assurance:

1. Mill Certification from manufacturing plant shall be provided for the origin of the stainless steel used in the manufacture of the caging system.

2. One inspection visit by customer to manufacturing plant or a virtual visit at 50% completion of equipment.

3. Final inspection of equipment by customer at time of delivery.
