About this file

This is a Sources Sought Notice issued by the United States Geological Survey's Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center for market research purposes under FAR Part 10. The Government seeks a 24-channel seismic data acquisition unit compatible with its existing Geometrics MicroEel seismic acquisition system. The Government explicitly states this notice is not a solicitation and will not result in a contract award or reimbursement of response costs.

The critical requirement is native compatibility with the existing Geometrics MicroEel system without requiring adapters, middleware, reverse engineering, or third-party interface solutions. The proposed equipment must function as a field-deployable seismic data acquisition unit with a minimum of 24 simultaneous recording channels capable of synchronized multi-channel acquisition for marine and nearshore surveys. Additional requirements include high dynamic range signal acquisition with low noise floor suitable for scientific-grade geophysical data collection, real-time or near real-time data acquisition capability, PC-based control system interface, 12V DC field power compatibility, suitability for marine and coastal field deployment with towed streamer system integration, and ruggedization for field use. Respondents must be commercially available, field-proven systems with demonstrated records in marine or nearshore geophysical applications. Interested vendors must submit a maximum 3-page Capability Statement addressing product description, native MicroEel compatibility demonstration, prior experience, technical specifications, estimated 2–4 month delivery lead times, warranty and support capabilities, company UEI and SAM registration status, business size under NAICS 334519, and OEM identification if applicable. Responses should be submitted electronically to Contracting Officer Joel Berberena at jberberena@ios.doi.gov with subject line "Sources Sought Response – Seismic Acquisition System Component."

REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW

The U.S. Geological Survey requires the procurement of a 24-channel seismic data acquisition unit as a component of an existing Government-owned seismic acquisition system.

The Government currently owns and operates a Geometrics MicroEel seismic acquisition system. The

MicroEel system relies on proprietary hardware, firmware, and software architecture to perform seismic data collection operations.

The requested equipment is required to restore and enable full operational capability of the existing system.

Compatibility with the existing system is the controlling requirement of this acquisition.

Equipment that cannot natively integrate with the existing system without modification, adaptation, or replacement of existing components will not meet the Government’s needs.

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

Any proposed solution must meet all of the following:

1. Native System Compatibility

• Must be natively compatible with an existing Geometrics MicroEel seismic acquisition system

• Must operate using original manufacturer protocols, firmware, and system architecture

• Must integrate without:

o Adapters o Middleware o Reverse engineering o Third-party interface solutions

2. System Role / Functional Requirement

• Must function as a field-deployable seismic data acquisition unit within an integrated seismic system

• Must support seamless operation as part of a multi-component seismic acquisition configuration

3. Channel Capacity

• Minimum 24 simultaneous seismic recording channels

• Capable of synchronized multi-channel acquisition for marine and nearshore surveys

4. Data Acquisition Performance

• High dynamic range seismic signal acquisition

• Low noise floor suitable for scientific-grade geophysical data collection

• Digital acquisition system consistent with modern seismic data collection standards

5. Real-Time Operational Capability

• Must support real-time or near real-time data acquisition and monitoring

• Must interface with PC-based control systems used in seismic acquisition workflows

6. System Configuration and Interfaces

• Must include necessary digital interface components and system connectivity hardware

• Must be compatible with standard supporting components, including:

o External power systems (e.g., 12V DC field power) o PC-based acquisition control systems

• Must align with commercially available configurations of modular seismic acquisition systems

7. Environmental and Operational Suitability

• Must be suitable for marine and coastal field deployment

• Must support integration with towed streamer systems and vessel-based operations

• Must be ruggedized for field use

8. Proven System Integration

• Must be a commercially available, field-proven system

• Must have a demonstrated record of use in marine or nearshore geophysical applications

Respondents shall not respond if their proposed solution:

• Is not fully compatible with the Geometrics MicroEel system

• Requires modification to the existing Government-owned system

• Requires replacement of existing system components to function

• Relies on third-party integration or custom engineering

REQUESTED INFORMATION

Interested vendors shall submit a Capability Statement (maximum 3 pages) addressing:

1. Description of the product proposed and how it meets all salient characteristics

2. Demonstration of native compatibility with Geometrics MicroEel systems

3. Prior experience supplying seismic acquisition systems of similar scope

4. Technical specifications and product literature

5. Estimated delivery lead times (reference: typical 2–4 months ARO)

6. Warranty and technical support capabilities

7. Company UEI and confirmation of active SAM registration

8. Business size and socioeconomic status under NAICS 334519

9. Identification of OEM if respondent is a distributor
